Essay #1 From Leader 1

The mapping of a human chromosome seems to be a big step forward for mankind. Or is it? I say that it is only good for the one fifth of the world's population that live in highly developed nations. Sure, this feat might mean that a couple of years might be added on to the average life expectancy of the few people living in highly developed nations, but what about the people that are dying NOW, due to lack of food and other basic necessities that we too often take for granted. I also wonder just how many lives would have been saved with the 3 BILLION dollars spent on a map of one human chromosome (eventually at least 66 billion dollars will be spent) out of twenty three. I know I sure do. This just points right to the wasteful spending of the government. Also, how many people are in support of spending so much money on such a thing? Does the government really care? Of course not!!! I say we stop mapping chromosomes until there is food on every table, every person has a shirt on their back, and EVERYONE has a government that they can believe in!!! I say the time is now!!! I say that today is the day we put an end to religous persecution !!! Today we stop turning our heads the other way!!! Today I am happy to say, my friends, is the day that we don't take it anymore!!! Today we fight.
