Hockey Info...Ty Powell enters his first full PLHL season as the full-time goalie for Brad?s team. He?ll take over for Tim Kay and Cory Phillips, who split time in goal last season. Seven different players in all played goal for Brad?s team last season so it will be a relief to have someone who can be counted on game in and game out. Several players struggle in their first season in the PLHL, but that statute doesn?t seem to hold true for goalies. The opposition hasn?t seen much of him, so they?ll be looking to pepper Ty from all angles at the beginning of the season until they find a weakness. The PLHL is a learning league however and Ty should only get stronger as the season wears on and he gets used to his opponents habits. Ty is a big guy who takes up much of the net, so it will be tough for the opposition to find holes. If he uses his size to his advantage he could be looking at challenging Sam for the Vezina trophy and at the very least the Rookie of the Year award. Ty should benefit from having a fairly solid defense in front of him in the form of Craig and TJ, but only time will tell. In order to get back to the championship, Brad?s team needs a dependable goalie and they?ve got all their chips on Ty Powell. If he can avoid the first year jitters and play excellent in goal, Brad?s team has a clear shot at taking the championship again.
