Derek Budde: Luke's Team--Assistant Captain

Awards And Accolades

Hockey Info...Derek Budde joined the league for the 1998-1999 season and has been one of only 4 players to play in all 49 games since then. He was incredibly raw his first season, but has improved greatly every year. Although he has won the Lady Byng trophy the past 3 years, he is anything but the nice guy. He plays the physical game, but has the discipline to keep it under control. Derek is a rock on defense, almost impossible to get around. On offense, he has proved to be an excellent asset for Luke?s team as the big man in front of the goal as the screener. Derek may not be among the leaders in goals, but the intangible part of the game is where he shines. He has been a cornerstone, the assistant captain, for Luke?s team, and has helped them to a pair of championships rings. He provides leadership to the team and is a physical presence on the blacktop. Derek had his best season ever in 2000-01, posting 15 points on 4 goals and 11 assists. His one weakness is his speed, but he makes up for that with his long reach. This season, Derek has greatly improved again and looks to factor more into the scoring. He is an important weapon in Luke?s Team?s arsenal and will be counted on to help lead them to another Championship.
