The 1998-99 season came and went with much fanfare. We would like to express our gratitude towards everyone who made this season such a success. Luke Meyer showed everyone why he is the best offensive player the league has ever seen. He scored 55 goals and accumulated 67 points en route to his seventh MVP in eight years. Brad Meyer came in second place in the MVP voting but came in first in the Selke trophy for best defensive forward. His leadership skills were a huge asset to his team’s success and his point production was tops on his team. Grant Hulett was awarded the Norris Trophy for the league’s top defenseman. He racked up 21 points while remaining a physical presence on the ice. Derek Budde won the Lady Byng Trophy in his first year of play. He was a two- way threat on both offense and defense and stood in the net in the occasional event that Sam came out. Sam Meyer at only 9 years of age won his first ever vezina trophy edging out rookie Greg Allman. Ben Meyer proved to be an excellent asset to his team, winning the Calder trophy as rookie of the year. Mark Budde threatened from his right wing position all season and came second in the Calder Trophy voting. TJ Meyer proved to be a pesky defensive player capable of getting under the skin of the opposition. Greg Allman showed off his goaltending skills throughout the season and was just barely edged out by Sam Meyer for the Vezina Trophy. Craig Loeffler really bloomed late in the season as a steady defenseman capable of controlling the puck in the zone. Not returning for this season were Josh Terrio, Scott Hulett, Adrian Brown, Bradley Hulett, and Andrew Brown. They simply lost interest in the Game but they weren’t very good and had no intentions of getting any better. The 98-99 season lasted 11 games before we were forced off of the parking lot by the Bible “Butt” Baptist Church. Regardless, everyone put up excellent stats for the 11 games played. I’m sure we are all looking forward to an spectacular 99-00 season.

The 1999-2000 season will celebrate the tenth Anniversary of the PLHL. The organization has grown in leaps and bounds since it’s introduction back in 1989 by current superstar Luke Meyer. Everyone has been staying in great shape since last season and we’re all looking forward to another great season. Soon everything from last year shall be forgotten and everyone will be setting new goals for this coming year. Luke Meyer will once again try to successfully defend his Hart Trophy which he has done every year but one. His team will once again benefit from his experience in the league. The consensus is that he will be successful in defending it, but not without stiff competition from Brad Meyer or possibly another breakout player. Grant Hulett will try to add some offensive production to his mainly defensive game. He hopes to beamong the point leaders while defending his Norris Trophy. With so much emphasis being put on defense this year, it will be a hard trophy to defend. Brad Meyer will try to regain the form that led him to the 92-93 MVP award while maintaining the defensive play that earned him the Selke Trophy last season. He is hoping to make it to the championship with his hard-hitting fast paced style of play. The 1996-97 ROY and 1998-99 Vezina winner, Sam Meyer, will once again lead his team from the net. His acrobatic style has drawn much attention. He will be a force for his team. In the other net will be Greg Allman who is returning for his second full season. He has a lot of intensity and will be a real challenge for Sam in the Vezina voting. Derek Budde will also return for his second season. He looks to add more points to his total and possibly contend for the Norris Trophy. His size will be a major factor for his team this year. Last year’s ROY Ben Meyer will attempt to challenge for the Hart trophy as well this year. Many think that if he plays a more defensive game, that trophy could be within his reach. Mark Budde proved to be one of the best up and coming offensive threats in the league and he is hoping that his success will carry over to this coming season. If he keeps his intensity level as high as it was, it should be no problem for him. TJ Meyer is one of the most feisty players and will likely continue the excellent defensive work that he displayed in his first year of competition. He will be another player who plans to challenge Grant for the Norris Trophy. Craig Loeffler showed at the end of last season that he has a good defensive work ethic and if it carries over to this season he could be the front runner in the Norris Trophy race. This season also sees the return of Josh Terrio. He has played on and off rather unconsistantly in past seasons but he will probably be here to stay now. This season four newcomers will join the PLHL. First of all, Ken Allman and Noel Bader who have played in a few exibition games in recent years. Also joining the league is Hiro a Japanese exchange student who has decided to join the league. Finally, Ben Meyer’s friend Paul will play in a few games with us. Needless to say, It will be a Great season for all.

Earlier in the summer, the 1999-2000 PLHL Awards were handed out to the stars of the PLHL last season. Not surprisingly, Luke Meyer won his ninth Hart Trophy as the Leagues most valuable player. He led the league in goals and points and led his team to a 6-4 record. The Vezina Trophy for the leagues best goalie, once again went to Sam Meyer. He posted a 2.22 GAA en route to a 5-4 record on the season. He once again beat out Greg Allman (2.67 GAA, 2-4) in one of the closest award chases of the year. Grant Hulett was successful in defending his Norris trophy as he scored 6 goals and added 4 assists while continuing his high level of defensive play. The Lady Byng Trophy went to Derek Budde for the second consecutive season as he acquired nine points without a single penalty minute. Brad Meyer won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the offensive player who best excels in the defensive aspects. This marks the eighth such trophy for the center. The rookie of the year award, often the most exciting race of all the awards went to right winger Noel Bader who had a goal and four assists to lead all rookies in points in his first full season. The breakdown of the awards is below:

The PLHL played its the first games of the 2000-2001 season on November 19, 2000. We've decided to stick with the two team format of the league and the teams have been put together well. Once again, Luke Meyer is the captain of his team with Derek Budde as the assistant captain. Mark Budde and Sam Meyer are also returning to the team from last season. During the offseason, Luke's team managed to sign highly touted defensive free agent, TJ Meyer. Finally, the team acquired Greg Allman in the blockbuster trade that sent Craig Loeffler to Brad's Team.

Brad captains his team again with the help of assistant captain Grant Hulett. The only other player from last season's team is sniper Ben Meyer. The team added to it's defensive depth by acquiring Norris Trophy runner up Craig Loeffler. During the offseason, Brad's team also signed rookies Cory Phillips and Tim Kay, to compensate for the loss of Greg Allman and TJ Meyer.

Also this summer, After ten years of existence, the PLHL now has aHall of Fame.
It's first members were inducted on August 1st, 2000.

The 2000-2001 PLHL season is now in the books. The season, which lasted 23 games exceeded everyone's expectations and will go down as the greatest season in the history of the league. Brad's Team finished up the season strong and edged out Luke's team in points 26-25. The awards were handed out at the end of the season and were strewn with surprises. In one of the closest MVP votes in recent history, Brad Meyer barely squeeked out the victory over Luke Meyer. This is only his second such award in his 10 year career. While Brad came in second place in the point race with 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points, he showed in leading his team to its first winning record that he was clearly the most valuable player to his team this season. Despite losing the MVP race, Luke continued his mastery of the league. He won the eleventh Art Ross Trophy in the past eleven seasons, leading the league with 40 goals and 7 assists for 47 points. Sam Meyer won the Vezina Trophy for the fifth time in his five years in the league. He played in 15 games and posted a 2.53 goals against average. He edged out Tim Kay and Cory Phillips who split time in goal for Brad's Team. In other surprise news, Craig Loeffler beat out Grant Hulett and TJ Meyer for his first ever Norris Trophy. Another shocker was Luke Meyer being announced as the Selke Trophy winner. This marks the first time in his career that Brad Meyer has not won the award. Luke Meyer played great defense for his team while maintaining his offensive superiority and clearly deserved the award. The Calder trophy for rookie of the year went to Cory Phillips who recorded 12 points in only 13 games and edged out Tim Kay. Finally the Lady Byng Trophy was awarded once again to Derek Budde for the third time in his three years in the league. He edged out Greg Allman and Tim Kay. So we're now all looking forward to the 2001-2002 season, the 12th PLHL Season. Can't wait to see you all there.
