SALTY DOG
SALTY DOG

Salty Dog is a 4 year old Missouri Fox Trotter gelding.

He's a true black and doesn't fade in the sun.

He's very gaited. He does a flat foot walk and the fox trot. He does this on a loose rein! He was first rode with a rope halter and loose reins. He is now wearing a snaffle bit (and rode with loose reins).

Salty is pictured in a short movie being rode alone on a very windy day in a 40 acre field-No Problem!

Salty Gaiting

Salty has been on three trail rides with other horses and riders and done great. He has walked over logs, thru tall grass and past places that made experienced trail horses nervous! He did great! He will make an awesome trail horse.

Salty is a confident horse!

Salty Goes where ever you point him!

He's the first one to greet you in the pasture. Catching is NOT a PROBLEM! He has a lot of heart plus a great personality.

He's now well enough trained that a 10 year old girl rode him in the arena today (2/28/06). That was a first. He has been rode by trainers, Tony and Jenny Vaught. He's been rode by a young training assistant. He's been rode by teenage girls on the trail rides. He's been rode by a 60 year old woman. And we now add a 10 year old girl (who loved him) to the range of people that have rode him.

His grandfather is the immortal Missouri Traveler, the most famous foundation stallion in the breed. He is a grandson of a reserve world champion mare. The gait is deep in his bloodlines!

Salty backs and sidepasses.

Salty Dog loads, clips, ties and stands for the farrier and for mounting. He also is trained to stand next to a mounting block.

He has been in training with Tony and Jenny Vaught, certified Parelli Instructor and Horse Specialists for 5 months.

As a young horse, he participated in three beginning Parelli clinics until he became old enough to start his development as a saddle horse.

He was also a participant in a Young Horse Development Clinic. He carried trash bags full of rattly pop cans. He played ball...except the exercise ball was bounced off his back. He also pretended to be a goal post while we rolled the big ball back and forth under his feet. Tarps are a yawn. He's had bikes rode right beside him. At the end of the clinic, he got his own helium balloon and tried to eat it as it floated around him.

Salty Dog back to barn - easy! Salty is NOT barn sour.

Since he is still a green horse, he needs an intermediate rider on up.
