Michael Mohr

b: 1792 d: aft 1850

Michael Mohr arrived in New Orleans on May 13, 1837 aboard the Gloucester with
his wife and 9 children.  His occupation at that time was a mechanic.  The family’s 
nationality and last permanent residence was France.  His age was 45, making his birth
about 1792.  The immigration record list only his first initial as M and his wife’s as 
N.  Her age is listed as 38.1
In the 1850 census, he is listed as Michael, his age is 55 and he states his country of 
birth is Germany.  He is living in 5th ward Lafayette, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.   His 
wife’s name is Maria A. and her age is 51  I tend to believe the N from the immigration 
record and Maria A. from the 1850 census are one in the same as the ages match.  In 1850 
they are still living in the New Orleans area in Jefferson Parish.  They have had 2 more 
children making 11 in all and 6 are still living at home.2
There is a Peter Mohr living in Jefferson Parish in 1850 whose age and place of birth 
(Germany) match the P Mohr, a child of Michael’s with him when he arrived in 1837.  These 
probably are the same.2

I have been unable to find Michael in the 1840 or 1860 census.
