KCAR Launch Report: November 2000 Sport Launch

Launch date and time: November 11th, 2000, 10:00 AM.
Launch location: 14900 Peterson Road, Kansas City, MO

The theme of the month was clustering. We saw clusters of two, three, five, and seven motors. Nick Stich's kit-bashed Big Daddy flew nicely on a D12-5 main engine with four B6-4 outboard motors. The most interesting flight of the day had to be Dan Kirk's kit-bashed Fat Boy that flew on seven C6-7 motors. At least one of the outboard motors started earlier than the others which caused it to bind on the launch rod. Once more of the motors started it took off nicely, but not after scortching the clip whip. Five of the seven motors ignited. Jerome Tonneson's kit-bashed Big Daddy made its first clustered flight at this launch. The C5-3 motors provided a good boost but the delay was a bit short. It later flew on a cluster of C6-5s for an ejection right at apogee.

Total impulse expended: 790.45 Newton-seconds, like a partial J motor. There were nine clustered flights (#4, #11, #14, #25, #29, #36, #39, #45, #49) and one multi-stage flight (#24). There were 9 families for a total of 11 rocketeers.

Thanks again to our hosts, James and Tricia, for letting us use their field.
