I Be Tsalagi*

This morning I looked in the mirror,
I stared intensely at what I saw,
Trying to figure out if it was
My eyes, my nose or my jaw.
Maybe it's my ears, I thought,
or maybe it's my chin,
I'm sure that I will figure out
what is my "part' that is Indian.
Maybe it's my arms or hands
or some little internal gland,
I sure hope I can soon find out
what "part" is Indian.
You see to some that means a lot
to them it's a big deal,
So maybe it's my knees or toes
or maybe my left heel.
But, you see, I don't understand
what this "part" stuff means,
Because in my heart I know
just who and what I be.
That from the top of my Tsalagi head,
to the tip of my Tsalagi toes,
With every beat of my Tsalagi heart
Every fiber of me knows
That it is not the "degree of blood"
That makes me what I be.
It is the spirit of Tsalagi
that dwells within, you see.
So with every breath I take
I'm as sure as I can be
that
I BE TSALAGI!!

Life is a Journey

Life is a Journey . . .
the intensity of this Journey is choosing which
path to take,
for there are many along the way . . .
paths which can lead us down rugged roads,
or smoothly paved ones . . . I, for some reason,
have always ended up on the rugged roads . . .
but, this one thing for sure,
the paths all connect us to the same highway in
the end . . .
for it's all just a circle . . .
some of us have a rougher time making it
there . . .
So, when you wake up tomorrow morning, remember
the people you meet at the cross roads
will show up in the same circle as you one
day . . .
will you find a smile on your face ~
or feel the need to turn your back
out of shame for words or
deeds undeservingly bestowed upon a brother or
sister?
Think about it . . . it's all just a circle . . .

Wolf

By: Bill Bolk

To See him you would be amazed;
That majestic look, as he looks at you with that
lonesome gaze.
The simmer in his grayish black fur;
The power in his large stride...
So graceful so sleek it leaves you in awww;
And won't let you speak...
The golden color in their eyes;
When you see their solemn look it just makes you
want to sigh...
That lonesome howl that gives you pimply chills...
Yet also thrills you and make you think of
Sheriffs hand bills;
The thought they have been hunted and slaughtered
for years...
That their kind may soon disappear;
Quickly bring your eyes to tears...
They've done nothing but their job what they know;
They take their hunting grounds to graze there
sheep and cattle...
Then hunt them down because the ranchers cage they
seem to rattle.
Why can't man just leave them alone...
It was man that took their home...
They would rather live in peace...

SO LET THE WOLF SLAUGHTER CEASE...

An Indian Prayer

By: unknown

O' Great Spirit,
Whose voice I hear in the winds;
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me! I am small and weak, I need your
strength and wisdom.

Let Me Walk In Beauty, and make my eyes
ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make My Hands respect the things you have
made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make Me Wise so that I may understand the
things you have taught my people.

Let Me Learn the lessons you have hidden
in every leaf and rock.

I Seek Strength, not to be greater than my
brother, but to fight my greatest
enemy--myself.

Make Me Always Ready to come to you with
clean hands and straight eyes.

So When Life Fades, as the fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you
without shame.

An Indian Version Of The Twenty-third Psalm

The Great Father above a shepherd Chief is.
I am His and with Him I want not.
He throws out to me a rope and
the name of the rope is love and
He draws me to where the grass is green
and the water not dangerous,
and I eat and lie down and am satisfied.
Sometimes my heart is very weak and falls down but
He lifts me up again and draws me into a good
road.
His name is WONDERFUL.

Sometime, it may be very soon,
it may be a long, long time.
He will draw me into a valley.
It is dark there, but I'll be afraid not,
for it is in between those mountains
that the Shepherd Christ will meet me
and the hunger that I have in my heart
all through this life will be satisfied.

He gives me a staff to lean upon.
He spreads a table before me
with all kinds of foods.
He puts His hand upon my head
and all the "tired" is gone.
My cup He fills till it runs over.
What I tell is true. I lie not.
These roads that are "away ahead"
will stay with me through this life and after;
and afterwards I will go to live
in the Big Tepee and sit down
with the Shepherd Chief forever.
