Roy Ward Baker

Roy Ward Baker was born in London in 1916. He was a director of Hammer Films in the 1970's. Amoung his movies are The Vampire Lovers, which is based on Carmilla it stared Ingrid Pitt and came out in 1970. The Scars of Dracula also came out in 1970 and starred Christopher Lee. In 1971 he came out with Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde. In 1921 he did The Monster Club it starred John Carradine but was not produced by Hammer Films.

Mario Bava(1914-1980)

note:I have written most of the names in there English titles. He was a French filmaker. Mario Bava was born in San Remo, Italy. His big break happened when he finished directing the movie I Vampiri, which is about Elizabeth Bathory. He finished the movie after the original director quit.

In 1960 he came out with the movie Black Sunday starring Barbara Steel. THe move faced censors in both Canada and Mexico and several sceans were edited before it was released in the US. THe movie was banished in England for many years.

Bava felt that the characters themselves were more inmortant then the plot so foften times the movie was really slow. He also showed explicit violence.

Some other movies of his were Hercules in the Haunted World(1961), Black Sabbath (if you're a big enough Black Sabbath fan you should know that they got there name from this movie.), The Wurdalak The movie starred Boris Karloff and was based on Tolstoy's book, Blood and Black Lace It was the bloodiest of his movies. His last vampire movie was Planet of the Vampires. Although he made other films he is remembered most for his vampire films.

Tod Browning

Born July 12, 1882 Tod Browning was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He directed London After Midnight in 1927 it was the 1st vampire feature film. IT had extraordinary distorting makeup. The movie was based on The Hypnotist. In 1931 he filmied Dracula wich starred Bela Legosi. It was one of the first vampire films to come out with sound. He also did a talking remake of London After Midnight called Mark of The Vampire. He died October 6, 1962.

Francis Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola was born in Detroit, Michigan in on April 7, 1939. He is known for the movies The Godfather 1,2,&3, Apocolypse Now, The Outsideres none of wich are vampire movies. The movie that he is known for that gives me the reason to put him here is Bram Stoker's Dracula. In the 1992 adaption of the story, wich starred Winona Rider as Mina and Gary Oldman as Dracula, instead of using recent special effects he used older ones like double exposure and miniatures.
