Actors and Actresses of the Vampire Realm

The porpose of this site is to display a vast amount of actors and actress who have played a number of vampire roles in there life no matter how long ago it was. Or other ones I deam of importance.

Theda Bara


(1889-1955)

Theda Bara was a silent movie who brought vamps to the bigs screen. Born in Ohio as Theodora Goodman she changed her name to Theda Bara when she stared in the movie A Fool there Was which was inspired by Rudyard Kiplings poem "The Vampire"

A Fool There Was, was one of the highest grossing films of 1915 She also starred in The Kreuter Sonata, The Clemenceau Case, and The Devil's Daughter.

Theda Bara was given the nickname "Vamp" and she would act out the part in public. After awhile people began to think that she was the reincarnation of Lucretia Borgia or Elizabeth Bathory.

Outside of playing the Vamp in movies she played in The Two Orphans in which she played a heroine but the move was unsuccessful. She also played in Sin which was a gangster movie. The movie was a huge successand was also banned in several states.

Theda's image inspired lots of songs most of which were comedies. There was "The Vamp", "I'm a Jazz Vampire", "Since Sarah Saw Theda Bara", and "Sally Greene, The Village Vampire" There was also a dance called The Vampire Walk.

She is still remembered as the original vampire.

Alons "Lon" Chaney


(1893-1930)

Alons Chaney began acting in 1901. In 1923 he played Quasimoto in The Hunchback of Notre Damn and in 1925 he also got the role of the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera

In 1927 he played both a vampire and a policeman in London After Midnight. He was the 1st actor to play a vampire in an American movie. He was originally going to play Bela Legosi's part in Dracula but he died of cancer before he could be assigned to the role.

Peter Cushing


(1913-1994)

Peter Cushing is best known for his roles as Abraham Van Helsing although he wasn't the only he ever played. He is also the best known actor for that role.

The following are the movies he played in... Dracula a.k.a. Horror of Dracula(1958), The Brides of Dracula(1959), Dracula A.D. 1972(1972), Count Dracula and His Vampire Brides(1973), and The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires a.k.a. The Seven Brothers Meet Dracula, it was a horror movie mixed with martial arts.

In the following movies he played non-Van Helsing roles. The Blood Feast Terror(1968), The Vampire Lovers(1970), and Tender Dracula(1974). He once played Victor Frankenstein in an adaption of the movie. He also played in the movie Twins of Evi(1971) in which he played a witch hunter.

The following moviers are non vampire related The Creeping Flesh(1973), He played in the House of Long Shadows(1982) which also starred Christopher Lee and Vincent Price. He also played in Star Wars.

Elvira

Elvirawas the alter ego of Cassandra Peterson. She was created in 1981 for a horror movie show called Movie Macabre.

Cassandra Peterson waas born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Before she made it big as her vampirelike persona Elvira she ws a showgirl in Las Vegas.

Elvira was the first person to apear 3-D on tv when they showed the movie The Mad Magician and she was also the first female celebrity to endorce beer products when in 1987 she began doing commercials for Coors Beer.

Elvara was even accused by Vampira for stealing her image and she attempted to bring her complaint to court. Howenver the court dismissed her case.

In 1985 she started to appear on Thriller Theater which re-released B-Movies on video. That same year she also recieved the annual Count Dracula Society Award.

In 1986 Marvel published Elvira's House of Mystery. It had 11 issues. Her costume was also the top selling Holloween Costume that year.

She founded Queen B Productions which in 1988 began working on Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. It was shown on Prime Time tv and also did well on video. Marvel comics also produced a single comic adaption.

The plot of the movie is as follows. Elvira decended from a long line of sorcerers and throughout the movie she's battling a man that she doesn't know is her uncle for a spellbook. Along the way she befriends some teenagers gets a boyfriend and fullfills her dream of going to Vegas.

Elvira was also the Media Guest of Honor at Dracula '97: A Centenial Celebration. She also holds an annual Holloween-orientated show at Knott's Berry Farm amusement park in California. Elvira's an animal rights activist and won the PETA Humanitarian Award.

Carol Borland


(1914-1994

Borne in Fresno California in 1914. When she saw Bela Lugosi doing the production of Dracula in 1929 she became obsessed with him. She wrote a short novel that was a sequel to Dracula called Countess Dracula. Eventually she coontacted Lugosi who invited her to his hotel for breakfast and she read it to him.

After finishing high school she won a scholorship to the University of California although she didn't stay long. She ended up playing Lucy in a stage performance of Dracula. And in 1934 she landed the role of Luna in the movie Mark of The Vampire. Their was only one line of dialogue but the image of her was said to have been an influence on Morticia Addams, Vampire and Elvira.

However doing this role did not help her career because people did not think she could do dialogue. For years because of this she only recieved bit parts. Eventually she left acting, became married and started a job as a teacher. Shortly after her death in 1994 her novel was published.
