In the Tibetan community around the Monastery lives an old carpet master, who draws on paper the traditional designs of the Tibetan tapestry, this being the model for the work of the carpet makers. With the selling of the carpets the monks and the community partially secure a livelihood.

Due to the strong competition with commercially working carpet manufacturers the artists are obliged to create modern designs. As a consequence, old designs are slowly disappearing and precious cultural might be lost forever.
