Clipping Your Wire Hair Fox Terrier

Clipping your Wire Hair yourself is really very easy. If you have worked with your puppy with daily grooming. (Remember this is also training time, not just to keep him/her looking good) then she/he will be used to standing for periods of time. When the puppy leaves our home it has more than likely (unless specifically not too) had it's first trim, so it knows what the clippers are. If you bought your puppy from a respectible breeder the same would be true. We will start with introducing the puppy to the clippers (just in case). I have found the first time hearing the clippers is very scarey for them, so make it easier. Turn on the clippers and then get the puppy interested in something else, a favorite toy, a snack, etc. Gently start rubbing the clippers over the puppy. Do this a few times without attempting to trim. Then go do the real thing.
Remember always start with a clean, brushed, dry dog. This will keep from dulling your clippers and giving your dog clipper burn. Always check your clippers every now and then to make sure they are not getting to hot for the dog. If it feels hot to you, then it is definitly hot to him/her.

Here are a few charts that show you how the trim should look. Happy Trimming!

Chart One

Using a number 10 or #7 or # 8 1/2 blade follow the arrows down under the chin to the top of the legs. Use one of the above blades to do the rear, tail and body following the chart. Your #10 blade is an all around blade and cuts the hair to a length of 1/16", a # 7 is 1/4" and an 8 1/2 is 3/32 ". So it depends on how long you want the hair left, what size blade you use.

Chart Two

Follow the chart, using only a #10 blade on the head.
