SYLTBOX´ HISTORY
It all started 1996. No... it all started in the late eighties. No....it all started in the very very early eighties. Yeah that´s right. 1981, May 17th. A son was brought to the world, FAT Gab. Then, about eight months later (26th of January 1982) the next one, Olle Kickflip, was born. And the 10th of April 1982 the circle was concluded by Syntax Error. Olle Kickflip and Syntax Error played from (almost) their beginning, ´cause they lived just across the street of each other. Then in about 1985 they met FAT Gab. FAT Gab had always been drumming on tables, saucepans and other things. For X-mas 1984 he got one of those shit quality drumkit that broke the same day he got it. Then his dad built a drumkit of saucepans and shit. And finally, in X-mas 1988, FAT Gab got his uncle´s old drumkit. That was the start of a new era, The Real Big Boys was formed. Members were Olle Kickflip, syntheseizer (is that spelled right?), Syntax Error, Hot Lix (a fake guitar with buttons instead of strings) and FAT Gab, drums. The songs were built like this: they had some kind of intro, then they just played whatever they wanted and when FAT Gab played a fill in, he marked the end. One year before The Real Big Boys, FAT Gab and his cousin Niclas Åberg had written a rapsong called "Jag skulle Gå Till Slakten". The Real Big Boys played that song. Then, suddenly, T.R.B.B. stopped playing. But soon after, The Rockmasterz was formed. It was excactly the same members as T.R.B.B. and not much better. Then they stopped playing and FAT Gab started taking drumming lessons (fall 1991) and Olle Kickflip started taking guitar lessons. FAT Gab and Olle Kickflip played together sometimes 91-95. In early spring 1996, Olle Kickflip was on vacation on the Canary Islands with his family . He was hanging with his older brother Erik at the hotel´s pool. A guy, who also were down at the pool, had a "synth-toffs" (you know, when you have short hair and one loooong, thin pony tail in the back). Olle´s brother saw the "Synth-toffs" and had to say something. He said to his little brother:
-Look, that guy´s got a "synth-toffs". Olle misunderstood his brother and thought he said "Syltbox", cause a guy with real small and tight bathing shorts had a bit of slack on the back of his shorts (you know, so it looks like you´ve got your ass full of shit). Olle thought his brother meant this guy and called the phenomena "Syltbox". ("sylt" means "jam" or "jelly" or "marmelade" in Swedish) None of the brother had heard the word syltbox before. When Olle Kickflip came home, he told his friends about the misunderstanding and the word Syltbox became cult. Olle and FAT started jamming and in one of their songs they stopped playing and screamt "Syltbox!". So they figured this would be their band´s name. During the spring they played a lot together on FAT Gab´s attic, which had always been their jamming-place. And when Olle´s family wemt to Italy in April -96, he came up with the main riff and a couple of lines to "Open/Close" the lines were "Open/close is like born and die, open/close is like wank around". They continiued playng and started writing their songs down. In the end of 1996 they had about 10 songs. Now they have 13 songs and a whole lot of material for new songs. Check back!!!
