Adult
Length: Males: 8-14+ feet, Females: 13-18+ feet
Adult Weight: A 17-18
foot Burmese Python can weigh over 200 pounds. Specimens weighing in at just
over 400 lbs. have been recorded.
Temperament:
Placid, but potentially aggressive
A Burmese Python
over eight feet in length is fully capable of killing an adult human
being. Burmese Pythons, while they appear to be sluggish, are extremely alert and
aggressive feeders, capable of inflicting painful and serious bites with their
numerous, needle-sharp, recurved teeth.
In the past several
years, Burmese Pythons reportedly have been responsible for at least two
deaths and numerous attacks in the United States. These deaths and
attacks can directly and undisputedly be related to inexperienced persons owning
a large, powerful snake that they are ill-equipped to understand and control.
Food in
Captivity: Ranging from mice to large rabbit or even larger prey.
A very large, well
built cage or enclosure is absolutely necessary. The right type of cage for an
adult Burmese Python will cost between $250.00 and $500.00 on up.
