Once Maya and Dawn finnished calling Holly's Granny and Aunt, They slomped down on to chairs.
"Maya what do you think happended?" she asked her voice shaking.
"I don't know." Tears were welling up behind Maya's eyes. "I hope it's nothing serious, I don't what to lose a friend like her."
Dawn just nodded, it was all she could manage. The thought of losing Holly was too sad to think about.
They sat there glumly for what seemed like forever. Then there was a knock at the door.
"Shit! I wonder who that is?" Dawn whispered wipeing the her wet cheeks with her sleave.
"I don't know, but I guess we should answer it. Don't you?"
Dawn gave a half smile, "Why not?"
Then the both opened the door to see none other then Zac.
"Ummmm... is Holly here?" he asked uncomfortably
Dawn and Maya looked at each other.
"Ms.McCann, I'm afraid that there is more wrong with Holly then we first thought. It's nothing too serious, but I think we should keep her in the hospital for a few days for observation," Dr. Green said slowly.
Ms. McCann was nervously biting her lip. I hope nothing bad is going to happen to my little girl.
"So what does she have?" she asked after a few minutes of silence.
"We're not positive yet. We'll have to do some tests to find out what it is for sure."
"What do you think it is?" Ms.McCann cried in distress.
His beeper went off. "I'm sorry, there's an emergancy. Wait here and I'll be back as soon as I can to answer any questions you might have."
Ms.McCann watched him go, and felt defeated. She was used to knowing everything that happened with her daughter, but now she couldn't even make the doctor stay and andswer her questions.
"What happened?!" Zac asked for the millionth time.
"We don't know!!" Maya yelled. "All we know is that she's hurt. Okay? That's IT!!!!"
Zac was scilent. "Well what can I do?"
"You can shut up," Maya mumbled.
Dawn rolled her eyes. "Sorry about her, she's a little moody at the moment. But you could probably help us get her things togeather."
"Sure."
They climbed the stairs quietly. Once in Holly's Glacier Blue room, they stood in the door. Dawn's eyes filled up with tears and Maya paced from foot to foot. Zac inhaled the sweet scent of the Dewberry perfume that hung in the air. They were all noiseless.
"Okay..." Maya breathed after a couple of minates. "What do you think she would want?
"Ummmm...probably p.j's, I remember how uncomfy those Hospital Gowns were when I had to get my appendix out," she smiled, remembering how much she had complained.
"And her lip gloss, she's so obsessed with that stuff," Maya added.
As the girls gathered those things, and other objects that they thought she might like, Zac skimmed the bookshelf. A bunch of Seventeens a collection of knick-knacks, a collection of L.J. Smith novels, and bunch of pictures of friends and what looked like family. There were several of a man who had the same sparkling brown eyes as her. Her Dad? He picked one up and exaimned it. It was most likely her father. But why were there so many?
He sat down on the soft double bed. There were lots and lots of stuffed animals on it. Where does she fit? He smiled. He started looking at them. There were a couple of Disney characters, a bird, a dolphin, and a honey gold bear. The bear stood out from the rest of them. It looked more.....loved? He picked it it up. Feeling kind of stupid he asked, "Would she want this one?"
Dawn and Maya's heads shot up.
"Yeah....I think she would..." Dawn said softly from her position crouched over a school bag.
He walked over to the two. "Ready?"
"Yeah."
Dawn and Maya walked out of the room. Zac walked back over to the book shelf and sliped a picture of the man who looked like her father in his pocket. He had a feeling it had special meaning...
