PWL BIGTIME WRESTLING
MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2002 - SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
Your Announcers: MIKE HOFFMAN and GENE WEST.
NOTE: The matches for this show were taped earlier in the day. The second portion of the show was telecast live from the PWL's studios in St. Louis.
Match Number One,
North American tag championship:
DONNIE GOSSETT and BLACKMALE aka SOUL GLO (champions) vs.
DWAYNE and T-BOY (challengers, with Bubba Shakespeare).
Given that the scraggly Dwayne and T-Boy were involved, this turned out to be a surprisingly exciting and watchable match. However, the experience of Soul Glo was able to overcome their opposition, and DG and BM retained their championship. Blackmale pinned T-Boy in 13:45.
Match Number Two,
North American heavyweight championship:
EXTERMINANS (champion) vs.
SWAMI YOGANTI (challenger).
As has been mentioned in previous weeks, Swami Yoganti just can't seem to get a winning streak going. A win here would not only boost his career and give him his first vhampionship in the PWL, it wouls seriously screw up the card for the PWL 24th Anniversary Show. Exterminans would have none of that foolishness, and pinned Yoganti in 12:51 to keep the matchmakers happy.
Match Number
Three, Quadruple Crown heavyweight championship:
SCHOOLHOUSE ROCKY (champion) vs.
THE GRITHER (challenger).
Rocky and Grither have had matches before, but none had turned out like this. After a back-and forth bout, the two were brawling at the 9:30 mark. Suddenly, Elmo Blatch ran through the audience to get to the ring. Once inside, he and The Grither began an intense fight, while SHR retreated to a corner. As Grither and Elmo took their carnage to the floor, referee Tom Tate decided to count out The Grither. Rocky reatined the title via countout at 10:31.
Match Number Four,
Television Main Event, World heavyweight championship:
COOLEROY (champion) vs.
DIRK MERCURY (challenger).
The Terror was a commentating guest of Mike Hoffman and Gene West at ringside for this match. While Terror ranted incessantly about people and events that may or may not have happened in the course of the world's history, Cooleroy made yet another successful World championship defense. Cooleroy pinned the valiant Dirk Mercury after 11:42, which seemed much longer to the fans who endured The Terror's unique brand of wrestling announcing.
For the remainder of the show, Mike Hoffman and Gene West gave a detailed rundown of next Monday's PWL 24th Anniversary Show (PWL24). Interviews with the champions and challengers of each of the championship matches were televised, and Mike and Gene nearly broke character twice, once during the Mondo Mbamba interview, and another time when an apparently intoxicated Terror made several accusations regarding the private life of small-time wrestling promoter Bill Gargle.
