Mocs skate strong again
Monroe wins third straight with 4-1 triumph over Tupelo

It doesn't matter where the Monroe Moccasins are slapping the puck around, they continue to play winning hockey.

The Moccasins rode another stellar goalkeeping night from Clint Owen en route to a 4-1 road victory over the Tupelo T-Rex on Thursday.

For Monroe (6-1-0), it was its third victory over Tupelo this season, the second on the road. The Mocs also extended their Eastern Division lead to four points over Lake Charles.

And for Mocs winger Lukas Smital, his first two goals of the season couldn't have come at a better time. He got the Mocs on the board with his first-period goal five minutes into the game. His second goal made it 3-1 in the second period in what was a tightly-fought game at that point.

Owen stopped 36 T-Rex shots to improve to 4-0 in the net.

"He's getting better every game," Mocs defenseman Russ Parent said. "He saved us in crucial spots tonight."

Lucas Miller had a second-period goal for Monroe which actually was the game winner as he made the score 2-1.

The Mocs' Matt Cressman added two assists on the goal, while Bill McKay pitched in with an empty-net goal and an assist.
