The Monroe Moccasins started the Brian Curran era off with a bang as they skated to a 6-2 road win over the Tupelo T-Rex an Friday.
"I think we played the system very well," said Curran, Monroe's first-year coach. "We've only been on the ice for 10 days and we're jelling pretty good together.
"We've got a lot of team speed, we had good penalty killing and the players supported each other, which is what I wanted to see. We had some great performances from a lot of players."
Defenseman Duncan Dalmao was the Mocs' big gun, scoring four points on a goal and three assists, as Monroe dominated Tupelo from start to finish.
He's a very talented player," Curran said. "He sees the ice well, is creative and skates well with the puck."
Speedy forward Lucas Miller chipped in with a goal and two assists as Monroe outshot Tupelo 42-18.
Monroe took a 3-0 lead after one period on goals from Kelvin Solari, Miller and Sean Freeman.
Dalmao scored his goal at the 8:26 mark of the third period, before leaving with a game misconduct penalty at the 17:47 mark.
Dorian Anneck ended the scoring with a power play goal at the 19:59 mark of the third period to seal the win.
The Mocs return home today for their home opener against defending President's Cup champion Shreveport at 2 p.m.
