Monroe --- Waco
Foreward David Butler, who was cut by Lubbock earlier this season and was signed by Monroe on Sunday morning, had a goal and an assist in his Mocs debut.
Forward Ty Hartigan, who joined Monroe in its first season, scored the game winner in the final period to help the Mocs (13-6-1) extend their Eastern Division lead to four points over Lake Charles (11-6-1).
Hartigan, now with seven goals this season, has three goals and an assist on the Mocs' current road trip. Monroe is now 8-3-0 away from the Snake Pit this season.
After missing 10 straight games with an abdominal tear, Monroe's Sean Freeman had an assist for the second night in a row since his return.
Waco scored first as Chad Michalchuk sneaked one by Mocs goalie Marten Engren in the first period. But that was all Engren would allow as he finished with 18 saves.
Monroe's road trip will continue Thursday as it faces Lake Charles at 7:05 p.m. It wraps up the trek Friday with a 7 p.m. game against Arkansas.
