The Moccasins (12-6-1) out-shot the Warthogs 44-36, but only Duncan Dalmao's second-period goal found its way past Alexandria rookie goalie Jeff Blair.
Blair improved his WPHL leading goals against average to 1.71 and dealt the Mocs their worst defeat of the season. Blair also stopped Ty Hartigan's penalty shot in the second period.
Monroe hurt its own comeback chances by not converting on five power-play attempts in the third period.
Alexandria's Jay Mazur picked up his 600th career point in 13 pro seasons when he beat Moccasins goalie Clint Owen to open the game's scoring. Alexandria defenseman Jason Desloover scored two goals, his first of the season, to help sink Monroe.
Despite the defeat, Monroe remains in first place in the Eastern Division, two points ahead of Lake Charles (11-6-1) and three in front of Alexandria (9-4-4).
The Moccasins play the third game of their five-game road trip today with a 7:05 p.m. contest with the Waco Wizards. The game will be broadcast on KJMG 97.3-FM.
This is the second meeting of the season between Monroe and Waco (9-8-1). The Wizards won a 5-4 shootout decision in the Snake Pit on Oct. 30.
Monroe will then play Lake Charles on Thursday.
