Mocs fall to IceRays, 4-2

The Monroe Moccasins allowed the Corpus Christi IceRays to sneak up from behind and steal a 4-2 win Thursday night in Texas.

The Mocs (36-22-6, 78 points) took a 2-1 first-period lead, but it was the IceRays who were first on the scoring at 1:31 into the game.

Jami Yoder struck back to even up the scoring at 7:07 Less than two minutes later, Monroe took advantage of a power play with Shawn Redmond slinging a goal through the net with Jason Smith and Dorian Anneck assisting.

The power-play goal provided the only Monroe lead as the Moccasins would not see another goal the rest of the game.

Corpus Christi (33-23-8, 74 points) took over the scoring in the second period with a goal near the end of the period to tie the game at two goals each.

The IceRays then exploded with a power-play goal in the early seconds of the third period as the home crowd picked up the noise level. With the momentum clowing on their side, the IceRays scored another goal to secure a win that clinched a playoff spot a 15:31.

The Moccasins travelled 10 hours Thursday night to Lubbock where they face off with the Cotton Kings (37-24-4, 78 points) tonight at 7:05.
