News by "The News-Star" Monroe, Louisiana
Center Darren Dougan and defenseman Jason Smith sandwiched goals around Amarillo defenseman Darren McLean, helping Monroe capture seven of eight possible points during the four-game road trip.
Dorian Anneck had two assists for Monroe, which improved to 28-14-2 and pulled into a first place tie with Shreveport in the Eastern Division. The Mocs and Mudbugs each have 58 points.
Mocs goalie Marten Engren was again strong in the pipes, stopping 30 of 31 shots on goal for the win.
"This was just one of those games," Mocs coach Brian Curran said. "Marten (Engren) played well, but as a whole it was not a good game. It's just good to have games like that, where we don't play well, but are still able to win."
The game was wrought with penalties, as the two teams combined for 24 penalties and 76 total minutes.
The Mocs return home for a Friday contest against Arkansas. The game begins a 7p.m. in the Snake Pit, and features the WCW Nitro Girls as entertainment.
