The Moccasins came up short against Eastern Division rival Lake Charles, falling 3-2 in a shootout Sunday.
The loss was the third straight for Monroe (28-15-4) and the third straight by a 3-2 score, a 3-2 home shootout loss against Alexandria.
Monroe has now lost three shootouts in a row. It stands 5-4 on the season in the overtime period.
The point won by the Mocs for the shootout loss keeps the team in sole possession of second place in the division with 60 points, one point ahead of the Ice Pirates. Shreveport remains in first with 67 points.
On Sunday, Brendan Keeny scored a second-period goal, his first of the season, while Dorian Anneck tied the game at 2-2 in the third period with his team-leading 27th goal of the year. It was Monroe's only goal in seven power-play opportunities on the night.
But in the shootout, Lake Charles goalie Bryan Schoen stopped four of Monroe's five shots. Only Anneck slipped one past Schoen.
With the shootout tied 1-1, the Ice Pirates Aaron Zarowny, the final skater, delivered the game-winning shot by getting the puck past Monroe goalie Marten Engren. Engren made 25 saves as his record fell to 13-9-2. A bright spot for the Moccasins was the play of the penalty-killing unit. The Mocs held Lake Charles scoreless on all seven power-play chances.
The two teams cobined to commit 25 penalties.
Monroe returns home to begin a four-game homestand. The Mocs, who will also play six of their next seven games at the Snake Pit, open with Amarillo on Friday.
