Mocs play strong again on road, pick up 7-3 win

FORT WORTH -- Monroe's tepid offense scorched Fort Worth goalie Billy Pye in a 7-3 Mocs road win.

Forward Lukas Smital scored twice and defenseman Duncan Dalmao added three assists for the Mocs, who end a two-game losing streak.

Monroe scored four goals in the first period, single-handedly bettering its output from the previous two games.

The Brahmas and Mocs combined for seven first-period goals, Monroe getting the first three.

Defenseman Jason Smith started the first-period scoring spree with a power-play goal.

A goal by Smital and newly acquired Shawn Redmon completed Monroe's scoring for the period.

Fort Worth followed with goals by Ross Harris and Derek Kups to inch the Brahmas closer.

Mocs forward Sean Freeman gave the Monroe some breathing room with a goal late in the period, that was answered by the Brahmas.

Right winger Dorian Anneck added a goal in the second period, before Smital and defenseman Jeff Pawluk closed the scoring with goals midway through the third period.

Goalie Marten Engren stood tall after being barraged in the first period, stopping 21 of his 27 shots after the first period.

Monroe improved to 32-18-5 overall and returns home for a 1 p.m. showdown with Austin in the Snake Pit today.
