The Moccasins' Lukas Smital scored the game-tying goal in the third period and the game-winner in the shootout, a day after Monroe's 2-1 home extra-period win over San Angelo on Friday.
Central Texas, the first-place team in the WPHL's Central Division with a 39-11-2 record, jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period, but that was all Mocs goalie Marten Engren would allow in regulation. Engren finished with 30 saves as he posted another shootout victory for the Mocs (31-16-5). On Friday, Engren made 34 saves.
A goal by Bill McKay in the second period and Smital's first goal forced the shootout. McKay, Dorian Anneck, Brendan Kenny and Jeff Pawluk added assists for Monroe.
The Mocs were playing shorthanded again as they were without the services of Ty Hartigan, Matt Cressman and Darren Dougan, who are all out with injuries. Also, Mocs winger Kelvin Solari was injured in the third period Saturday. His status is unknown.
The Mocs, who outshot the Stampede 38-32, were called for only two penlties.
Monroe remains in second place in the Eastern Division with 67 points, four behind Shreveport.
Monroe faces Alexandria (16-29-8) today at 5 p.m. in the Snake Pit. Both teams will be playing their third game in three nights.
The Warthogs, last in the Eastern Division, have lost two straight games, including a 3-2 loss to San Angelo on Saturday.
