Mocs edge T-Rex

The Monroe Moccasins have held Tupelo's number all season and that trend continued Thursday night.

Mocs forward Sean Freeman scored the game winning goal in a shoot out to defeat Tupelo 4-2 and extend a season-best winning streak to winning streach to seven.

"When you are on the a streak sometimes you getp retty games and sometimesyou have the ugly game," Freeman said. "We did whatever it took tonight to get a and it tooki tonight to get a win and thats why its a streak."

Freeman made twomoves on Tupelo goalie Tom Noble before flipping a backhand into thenet that gave the that gave the Mocs a 2-1 edge in the shootout. His shot, and steller play from Mocs netminder Clint Owen, helped Monroe to do it sixth consecutive home win and keeps the Mocs four points in front of Shreveport in the Eastern Division of the Western Professional Hockey League.

"On the bench Brendan Kenny told me to do that move," Freeman said. "I used the move in practice Wednesday when we were in a contest, and Kenny told me to useit."

Monroe looked sluggish for the first two periods. Despit getting off 31 shots through the first two period, the Mocs trailed 2-1. Tupelo center Jason Pain tallied the only goalof the first period, when he got past Monroe defensemen Duncan Dalmao and flipped the puck past Owen for a 1-0 lead.

Monroe captain Matt Cressman tied the score with a wrap around with a wrap around goal early in the second period, but the T-Rex answered with a goal from Mike Mayhew.

Mayhew received a pass from right wing Brent Scott to the left of Owen, who was on the right side of the goal, and buried the puck in the back of the open net. Cressman netted his second goal in the third period and was followed by a Jason Smith cannon shot through Noble's five hole , that gave the Mocs their first lead, 3-2.

"I was josseling with someone in the other end, and fortunately I beat him up the ice," Cressman said. "Smith sent me a great pass and all I had to do was keep my stick on the ice."

But with less than five minutes remaining, Jeff Andrews again tied the game 3-3 with a goal past Owen.
