The Mocs only utilized one of their nine power play opportunities for a score. Lake Charles knocked the puck in three of its seven times.
The Ice Pirates grabbed the lead quick as David Barozzino tapped the puck in after only 21 seconds into the first period.
The Mocs had to wait seven minutes before they were able to even up the scoring as Lukas Smital scored on a power play.
But four minutes later, the Ice Pirates took control again with another power play score by Ryan Rintoul with 2:32 to go in the first.
Then Bill Lund used another power play score to give Lake Charles a 3-1 lead near the end of the second period.
Matt Cressman brought the Mocs within one with a shot 3:30 into the third.
Eight minutes later John Hanson put the game out of the reach of the Mocs. The Pirates had 43 shots on Monroe goaltender Marten Engren. The Mocs had 33.
The Mocs stay on top in the Eastern Division, but second-place Lake Charles pulled within two points with the win.
Tonight, Monroe travels to play Arkansas, that lost to the Shreveport Mudbugs 5-1 Thursday night.
