ALEXANDRIA -- Alexandria held off a third-period Monroe rally Thursday night for a 4-3 win in Western Professional Hockey League action.
Monroe trailed 3-1 entering the final period, but Jason Smith put the Moccasins on the board quickly in the third period.
Darren Dougan also added a third-period goal for Monroe, but Alexandria added a goal to take the win over its Eastern Division rival.
Monroe outshot Alexandria 46-35, including 21-9 in the third period.
Monroe took a 1-0 lead at the 6:45 mark of the first period when Lukas Smital scored on a feed from Matt Cressman.
Chris Peach countered with an unassisted goal later in the period and scored again at the 1:42 mark of the second period. The Warthogs added a goal at the 17:12 mark of the second period.
The loss drops Monroe to 16-10-1 and the Mocs have 33 points. Alexandria improves to 11-9 and 5 with 27 points.
Dorian Anneck had two assists for the Moccasins. Anneck now has 21 assists and 18 goals on the season for 39 points.
Monroe will be in action tonight at home against Eastern Division for Tupelo and again Saturday night at home against Arkansas.
