MINUTES FROM DISTRICT MEETING ON SUNDAY DEC 12 @ST. PETER
Special Thanks to George Krumm for visiting with us Sunday. George is the newly appointed co-chairman of All South Central District Athletics. As such, he is attempting to get out and meet the membership and the boards, and along with Pat McMahon, will be helping to run the day-to-day business of the whole district for all sports.
George announced a Post-Season 8th grade Girls and Boys All-Star Basketball Tournament to take place after the CITY/County Championship. These 8 team tournament will consist of 6 from each district and 2 wild card teams, each team composed of no more than 2 players from a parish. The teams will be developed by each district in any way they see fit. The CYC only requests that no disciplinary problems be elected to the team in keeping with the philosophy of the CYC.
The game will take place and be run by the Metro North District. There may also be team recognition at half time of a Billiken game.
George also requested information regarding the parish Athletic Associations and how each determines player participation in the leagues. The CYC is attempting to collect this information along with the current association presidents and member lay directors.
George also informed us of the CYC's efforts after July to determine and possibly improve the relationship between the parish and the athletic associations. The CYC is really encouraging the athletic programs to become a Youth Ministry, providing a more rounded enrichment for our children.
Thanks for the visit and information George. Count on our support in your endeavors!
TOPICS DISCUSSED
- Scheduling - You will be able to pick up an abbreviated schedule at our meeting next Sunday, Dec. 19th, which may consist of 2 or more weeks of the initial schedule, depending on Bill's ability to get it done.
There are still some gym times to be solidified and some teams have changed composition or completely disappeared, which directly affects the whole schedule.
The schedule will also be published on the Website.
- Rules 1 - Bill offered a written document stating that the district requires all participants to play in both halves of each South Central District basketball game.
We also highly recomend that each player take part in at least 1/4 of the playing time of a game, with failure to comply possibly resulting in disciplinary action.
After some discussion, Tom Schwarz, Immacolata, made a motion to vote on the issue, it was seconded by Joe Herber, St. Michael, and passed unanimously by the district body.
- Rules 2 - Bill also suggested, after some discussion, that we clean up notes and additions to Jim Moore's body of work concerning the rules and misinterpretations, and have it printed to be handed out to the coaches.
- Gym Time - Bill also added that we may very well be okay on gym time this year and not have too much to worry about, due to the additon of Valley Park High School times by Sacred heart, more St. Bridget time, and the addition of St. Joseph and JFK High school in Manchester.
- Rosters were collected and will be reviewed and returned as soon as possible. With 265 teams this year, this is a monumental task. Thanks again to Pat Moore for helping to tackle this job.
