About our name:
While we searched all of the great mythological characters from Greek Mythology, Roman Mythology, Druids, Egyptians, etc. The one "Mythological" character that symbolizes Faith, Honor, Chivalry and all that is good, was King Arthur. This Medieval time period also keeps with the overwhelming theme of Mardi Gras (Kings, Queens, Knights, Maids, etc.). Avalon is the Island where King Arthur was laid to REST, rest is emphasized because, according to legend, and Merlin, King Arthur will again rule with the Knights of Round, and the Lady of the Lake will return Excaliber to him. And it is in this faith that Good will triumph over Evil, that this Krewe was formed. And there is no better symbol of faith in chivalry, than that of Camelot and ultimately Avalon. Merlin Prophesized of Arthur's return, the entire poem is here, but I have extracted a passage that summarizes the truth that we hold dear, that Free Thought shall take the shield of truth, and make it shine bright, as Arthur did.
But when the fiery wave of war has washed
The world, as gold from which the dross is burned,
The nations shall rise purer, and men's hearts
Shall fear the touch of wrong; the slave ashamed
And angry once to see the pitiless sun
Smile on his chains, shall leap and sing for joy.
Free thought shall take the ancient shield of Truth
And make it bright, showing the Artist's work,
Long hid by stains and rust from longing eyes;
And hoary ills shall die, and o'er their graves
Shall bloom fair flowers, and trees of goodly fruit
To gladden and make strong the heart of man."
