RONALD REAGAN IS DEAD.

Ronald Reagan died in the midst of my frantic writing, so I had to slip in a few of my thoughts regarding the guy.. I was born one year into Reagan’s presidency, so really, my first memory of anything political wasn’t until the 1988 election.. Reagan is virtually non-existent to me, and yet, with as little as I know about him, other than what I’ve read in the admirable book “When Character Was King,” by Peggy Noonan, I disagreed with a lot of what was being said about him throughout the weeklong nonstop coverage of him.. Specifically how we were constantly reminded of how Ronald Reagan moved the country to the right, forcing Democrats to become more centrist in order to get elected.. I know that in the 60s and 70s, the Baby Boomers were frying their brains with drugs, subscribing to Marxism, and spreading V.D., but how much of that has really changed..? The Democrats have exposed themselves as the kids whose parents buy them a Mustang for their sixteenth birthday, but they’re upset because it’s the wrong color.. Isn’t it obvious that we’re debating Democrat issues! Bush wasn’t under attack for not wanting to raise taxes… he was under attack for cutting taxes that Democrats had already put in place! And I know that Bush’s Medicare bill wasn’t very popular, but who invented Medicare?!? Or Social Security for that matter?!? We’re not debating whether or not the government should be planning peoples’ retirement for them… we’re discussing how to continue to keep the government’s retirement program in place! Last time I checked, abortion was legal, our immigration laws aren’t enforced, and Christianity is under assault on an hourly basis.. If the behavior that I just described is considered centrist, Reagan’s ‘Just Say No To Drugs’ campaign must be what the coked up journalists were referring to when making such a ridiculous claim.. So God bless Reagan.. He’s gone to a better place where nothing anyone says about him can touch him… not that he ever really let any of that stuff get to him when he was still with us.. History will be kind to one of the world’s greatest leaders of the twentieth century.. So long…
