IMMINENT THREAT.

I get really embarrassed when I’m discussing the Iraq War with other people, and they tell me, “Iraq wasn’t an imminent threat!” No, it wasn’t, I have to admit and it’s even more embarrassing when I can’t recall where any high ranking member of the Bush Administration claimed it was, I have to ask them to educate me.. “Well, George Bush did in his 2003 State Of The Union speech!” Oh, right I remember now.. George Bush said: “Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have the terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late.” Yea… well it didn’t sound like he said that the threat was imminent… in fact, I think he was saying that when dealing with blood-thirsty terrorists, America actually needed to adopt a new policy of not waiting for an imminent threat before launching a pre-emptive strike.. We tried it the liberal way pre-9/11… and we got 9/11.. So that jerk George W. Bush took a risk and decided that it was time to change our foreign policy.. The fact is, as far as I can tell, the imminent threat quote was made up by a desperate anti-war politician, and lazy journalists adopted it as George Bush’s policy… I tried this same approach and discovered that prior to what the media has been reporting, David Kay actually said that Iraq had WMDs.. In his own words: “We found a highly advanced nuclear weapons program, but we quickly destroyed it, and the only remaining evidence is a big hole in the ground,” No shit..? Okay, so that may be true, but that still doesn’t justify war…except that we’ve been interrogating Saddam Hussein since his capture, and he’s now admitted: “Yes, I did have nuclear missiles, but I wasn’t going to use them to hurt Americans, believe me.. I was going to sell them to al Qaeda..” Amazing.. The most shocking quote that I found was actually from John Kerry, the Democrat’s presidential candidate in 2004.. Before he voted against spending $87 Billion dollars to support our troops in Iraq, he actually voted for it.. And before he voted for it, he took the senate floor, and said: “As you all know, I voted to give this president the power to send troops into Iraq, because we all know that Saddam Hussein has been dishonest with us.. We know that he is hiding nuclear weapons, and I believe that Iraq is an imminent threat..” Well, there you have it.. It wasn’t George W. Bush, but John Kerry who said Iraq was an imminent threat.. Next time someone pulls that imminent threat quote out of their ass, you can use any number of quotes to contest it..
