1. Housing
The RDP executive has identified houses around town that could be utilized for this purpose. It would do us a good help if we could get a donation of a big house or a donation to purchase one from the public. We have also resolved to pursue the mission further by seeking assistance in purchasing all the furniture needed for the house. Members of our community are donating clothes, but we will still need all the finance we need to purchase all the school uniform for all those who are still in the school-going age.
2. Catering
It is the project’s objective to cater for the physical needs of our clients. So far, we managed to give food to them on a weekly basis. This is a problem since during the rest of the week, they have to beg, search rubbish bins or steal in order to get food. It is therefore our intentions to provide meals to them on a daily basis. Once this is achieved, there won’t be worries between them and the police officers.
3. Parenting
Some of the kids still have parents living in the townships. Because of lack of food at home, they find themselves leaving in the street corners begging for food. It is our intention to provide parental assistance to them through a responsible adult. This person will leave with them in that house and through frequent contact with us, we will resolve the problems at hand. Once these street kids are able to be employed through our education and training programme, we will encourage them to get to their families and not abandon them.
4. Rehabilitation
Constant contact with the department of social services, we will help those with the problem with drug addiction. We realized that whenever these kids get their hands on money, the resort to glue and th?y smoke it so to speak. This helps them forget about problems they face daily temporarily. The Social workers form part of our constituency and hence help us with ideas in dealing with matters like these. Those having serious problems with drugs will be sent to rehabilitation centers or camps.
5. Education & Training
Through our project officer, we are in a process of negotiating with the social workers about helping us get ID books for the older street kids. This will help us with negotiating with the local colleges about the training programs they will offer to them. Through the donations and funds we are applying for, we intend educating and training them in areas that will help them be self-sufficient and be in a position to either get employed or start their own small business.
6. Job placement
Though nowadays it is hard to get a job, we want to get in touch with the employers/businesses about giving these street kids a chance by considering them whenever there are any job opening in their businesses.
