Gohan is the son of Goku and Chi Chi, and the brother of Goten. In the beggining of Dragon Ball Z, he helped to defeat Raditz, showing off his hidden powers. Piccolo kidnapped Gohan, trained him, and turned him from a wuss into a fighter. From then on, Gohan always admired Piccolo. During the battle of the sayians, he looked at Vegeta's moon ball, transformed, and also helped to win that fight. During the Cell Game, he watched Android 16 getting his ass kicked. The disembodied head of Android 16 was talking to Gohan, then Cell destroyed it. This enraged Gohan so much that he reached SSJ level 2. He was the first to reach this level. Durning the Majin Boo series, he trained with Dai-Kaoshin, and reached Mystic Form. After this, he could no longer reach SSJ levels(I think, but I'm not sure). In the TV series, he doesn't become stronger than Goku, for Goku was always strongest, but in the manga I think he does.
