Phoenix Rising

Freedom, a word she once knew,
It went away, the moment they said, “I do”.
They laid their vows, ‘Till Death do them part.
He broke them, as he had her heart.

As he lies with his new love, he thinks of the past.
How could he have told her, that this love would last?

He mended her wings and helped her fly.
He shot her down, and she fell from the sky.
Her body lay broken and battered;
Her wings, torn and tattered.

As she lay there with a single tear in her eye.
Her only wish was to curl up and die.
As she lays down, cold and alone, she thinks of the past.
And wonders what happened to make it end so fast.
All she did, she thought was right.
All it did was make them fight.

The freedom now gone, never to return.
He took a new love, and theirs he had to burn.
She still loves him with all her might.
Even at times, she’s sickened by the sight.
He’s at a place, where he shouldn’t be.
He’s a person, she never thought she’d see.
He lies to himself, and others as well.
He often wonders if he may go to hell.
For all the pain he caused to himself and to others.
Even the pain he caused his son and his mother.

He Left her alone to mend her heart.
Broken, torn and ripped apart.
Her world, her dreams, are all shattered.
He walked away as if it never mattered,

How can she recover from a love this great?
Would she find another soul like hers to mate?
Before they even met, they knew it was to be.
Why couldn’t they stick around to see?

So many answers, so little time.
So many questions, it could be considered a crime.
How could he have told her this love would last?
How could they be forgiven for the pains of the past?

How could she say, I’ll love you forever?
Knowing, they could never be together,
Her ties with him, she tries to sever.
Bound by child, they‘ve created life.
Struggling alone, fighting the strife.

How could this happen, how could it be?
She always thought, this would never happen to me.
Bruised and broken, she carries on.
Mourning the love that now is gone.

In her young sons eyes, she see’s a light,
Hand in hand they move through the night.
Within that light she finds reason for life.
Knowing together they can survive this fight.

She looks to her dreams to take her away
In the waking hours she prays he will stay.
She cares not for the life he promised,
She only wishes he could be honest.

She stops and looks in
From the cold and the snow
Picks her son up and says,
It’s time to go.

With Broken wings the angel turns,
Walks away to nurse loves burns.
She hides alone, out of sight
Until she can once again,
spread her wings and take flight.
ANGEL

Broken.

With impaired eyes you see me, calling me your angel.
All that I touched, I have destroyed, turning me into a devil.
With open arms I hold you, crystal tears I shed.
You have saved me, cleaned the wounds, allowing me to rest in your bed.
I cannot hold you any closer; I do not want you to feel the pain, the sorrow.
That was created from the past and what may lie in the dawn of tomorrow.
You have won my heart, with cracked and missing pieces.
With love and joy you have mended, and filled it with peace.
These wings you have given me, I took off in flight.
I cannot ever repay the debt that was created when I saw your light.
Your light cleared this dusty path.
You have shown me a way to escape the past.

And for that, I thank you.
