Dec 2010 Meeting

Congrats Ozzie on being VP

Congrats Tim Allen on being Fed Rep

There was a lot of discussion on a few different topics:

  1. Christmas Party: The party has normally been held in late January at Fishermans Inn and after some discussion it looks like we will be staying with that. Always open to options and if you have a good recommendation, please do a little research and let us know. Jamie – would you mind checking into some dates and availability?
  2. Meeting Venue: This fall we were bumped from our normal “1st Monday of the month” at the Eagles Club and since then there has been some difficult meetings. There were a few locations thrown out as future possibilities: Fat Willys, Elks, Best Western & Dos Amigos. We may need to do some research to see what’s available out there. On a happy note, Tim Chapman and I had a good conversation with President/former President of the Eagles and he wasn’t happy to hear that we were unhappy. He made note that we requested the first Monday of every month and assured us that there was no reason that they couldn’t make that work. He took my phone number and said he would get back to us, we will wait and see. Dan C. is also going to talk with Kevin on his return and see what he can find out.
  3. Awards/Plaques: It was decided that this year everyone who placed in a tournament will be receiving a name plate only. We are going to look deeper into some type of larger plaque where we can attach the nameplates. The AOY Trophy will continue to be the same traveling trophy as in the past and we will continue to have a separate award for “Big Bass” – Note to Jamie, we are hoping to improve how the big bass award looks!
  4. Meetings: there was some discussion on how to improve our meetings or make sure we have something to offer. Brent brought up that normal informational seminars may add some value and we also discussed different Swap/Shop and other ideas we have done in the past. Any and all input welcome – I believe Brent committed to an informational in the next month or two, if you have info to share or a speaker to recommend – BRING IT!!

August 2006 Meeting

State Team paperwork for Gull Lake this year is past due.  If you have not given your information to Matt Pretzer, please do so immediately.

Matt Pretzer (per Chuck), John Stears (per Brent) and Brent Haimes spoke about their winning patterns on Waconia.

Jamie Warner recapped the couples tournament this year.  Another great event and a big thanks to John and Rheta (for organizing, not kicking butt).  This is a fun time.  Let's make a big effort to have more attend next year.

Matt Pretzer spoke about the new proposed constitution amendment.  I will add this once I receive it from Matt.  This change will be voted on in a winter meeting.  Bay Lake won the vote for a new 2 Day location.  The dates are September 23 & 24.

We had some discussion on the weigh in process used at Waconia.  The method used was to find Brent and weigh in any fish that might be in danger on his hand held through out the day.  There was some concern on if this was the best process to use.  In the future, we may look at changing to a measure tournament if the need arises.  However, the best step as agreed by anyone is to prepare better and not have a July tournament longer than 8 hours if we are to weigh in fish.

Note that the next meeting will be August 30th at the Elks if we get the OK from them.  State tournament overlaps with the scheduled first Wed in Sept so this change had to be made.

Note - Multiple changes to the North / South Center take off.  Jason Smith also had to drop.  Please see the BoatRamp for the latest take off order and pairings.

July 2006 Meeting

Jay Hodge, Brad Gravenhoff and Steve Holets spoke about their winning patterns on Forrest Lake.

Reminder that the Couples Tournament is July 22 from 8AM to 12 PM.

The biggest item of the item was a vote to suspend the rules of amending a tournament.  There are very few people planning to go to white fish for various reasons.  With the DNR putting the Rice off limits, even fewer plan to go now.  The new lakes to be voted on next month for the Sept tournament are Pokegama, Bay and Whitefish.  Matt Pretzer to provide details of the action that took place.  I will add that here when I receive it.

June 2006 Meeting

Thanks to Mike McNeilus for the newsletter notes for the June meeting in my absence.

KFAN notes:
The meeting opened with a couple of reps. From St. Judes handing out shirts to club members and thanking us for our help in running the tourney.  There will be an article in an upcoming issue of BASS TIMES about it.  Other sites such as fishingworld.com and stjudesfishing.com will also have more info.  A total of $98699 net was raised this year.  The total for the past eight years is approx. $387000.A special thanks to Tim and all club members friends and family who helped make this a successful event.  Raffle tickets are being sold by St. Judes for a Ranger 188 with 150 Yam. They are $20 each with a total number of 5000 avail.  The drawing will be held 8/19 at the Tonka St Judes Tourney.  Mike Kepp took some extra tickets see him if you need to purchase some.  After that we had some discussions of how run a better tourney next year.  It was suggested that we could work on this in more detail during a winter meeting.

Team Captain Matt Pretzer handed out rules and entry forms for this years TOC on Gull Lake.  Matt asks that you complete and return these to him at the 7/5 meeting.

Next we brought up the 6/10 Forest Tourney.  It was noted that Larry and Chris had dropped out.  This put Phil and Jason together, they will now be boat # 11.

Then we voted on times, 6am -3pm won.  It was noted there will be a Musky Contest Saturday also starting at 6am,with a guesstimate of 30-40 boats.  As stated before we will leave from Timms’ Marina & campground.  Some members are going up Friday and staying over, others will meet at Steve Holets house 450 2nd Ave. NW in Oronoco.  Steve has a spare lot we can park on.  Departure time is 3.30AM. Steve lives one block west of Nick.  His cell # is 507-251-3144

Non-boater fee was established as $50 plus Big Bass entry, launch fee is $6 and should be split.

Tornament Director Jamie requests that you seek your partners input/assistance in bumping potentially short fish.  This will alleviate problems and keep our weigh-ins moving quickly.

New Bus. Couples tourney 7/22 Lake Winona, more details will be provided at the next meeting.  Some members are planning to drive up to Waconia 7/16 pre-fish and stay over.  The # of The Super 8 in Waconia is 952-442-5147 for res.  Meeting adj. At 8.40 PM.

May 2006 Meeting

Federation Report:

Discussed FLW / TBF qualifier tournament.  At this point, if you wish to fish the TBF, then follow the opportunity that Dick sent out via e-mail.  The discussion will be dropped as a club until more information arises.

Voted to Support the Lake Zumbro Improvement Association again this year.

Discussed upcoming KFAN tournament work schedule.

April 2006 Meeting

March 2006 Meeting

25 people attended the meeting.

No Federation Report.

Club voted to submit a proposal for 2007 MNBF State Tournament on the MS River.  Dick Dorman will be submitting the proposal at the next State Federation meeting.  If the proposal wins, we will talk more about what works needs to be done to prepare and to host the event.

No new news on BASS vs. FLW issues.

KFAN News - Tournament preparation is on track, but sponsors are still needed.  Please let John know if you have any sponsor opportunities.  Also, Tim Allen needs to know your availability to work the KFAN (May 6/7) but NEXT meeting.

John Stears mention that he and Rick Billings may try and get Jimmy Johnson, Mark Fisher and possibly another angler to put on a seminar to help raise money for St. Judes / KFAN.  He will keep us informed.

Rick's buy in proposal passed in the last meeting, however particular's were discussed at this meeting.  Rick is buying it at spot #5 (just below the team), thus is any changes occur the list will be affect from bottom up.  Mike McNeilus is the last member of the team and stated he has no problem with this.  The club will review how this years "trial" goes with Rick and a decision will be made next year to decide if this is something we want to keep in place or not.

Almost all the dues are in.  Speaking with Phill, every one but Jeff Becker, Stan Larson, John Algyr and Adam Baker have paid or made arrangements to pay.  Please contact Phill to get these paid as the roster in due by March 31st.

Mike Kepp, Chuck Campbell, Brent Haimes and Todd Osweiler will likely not be at the April meeting and want to be in the draw for the April tournament.

Lastly, Kyle Bellefy joined us at the March meeting and is interested in joing the club.  We will be voting on his membership at the April meeting.

February 2006 Meeting

About 27 people attended the meeting.

Federation Report:

BASS vs. FLW details: Currently there are no contracts to be signed so it's just a waiting game. MN Federation has not set any deadlines to make any decisions so we are currently in a "hold pattern". More news to come.

Stearns County has made proposals for additional restrictions and laws on tournaments. We are not fishing in that county, so nothing for us to worry about thus far.

2007 State Proposal for Leech Lake has been submitted. Do we want to submit a river nomination?

New News:

BASS/ZVBM dues are due at the March meeting.

KFAN is set to go out of Wabasha. Invitations will be going out soon. Discussion was had about work to be done.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Alt E is likely a go. The presentation was more to tell what was happening rather than asking for opinions.

Dan Krueger has put his name in for June, July, Aug and Oct tournaments already in case he missed those meetings.

Raffle raised $383 total split between Stacie/Alex Lepp and a member of ZVBM to be used as donation in KFAN.

A benefit auction for Stacie Lepp is to be help March 4th at the Elks Lodge.  Click here for details.

Buy in for 2007 State Tournament passed.

There will be a meeting in Wabasha on January 24 to discuss Mississippi River refuse proposals. John Stears presented the noted changes for Alt E. Some of the high points are below:
