DELTA NU HISTORY
The Delta Nu chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of the University of Minnesota on May 30, 1970. Sigma Gamma Rho was the FIRST historically Black sorority chartered on the University of Minnesota's campus, and is the only one to not be a city-wide chapter.
Unfortunately, there were several years of inactivity in Delta Nu chapter, until the fall of 2002, when two young ladies were moved to begin to pursue membership into Sigma Gamma Rho. After many months of letters, phone calls and emails, Bridget Craven-Neely, basileus of Epsilon Theta Sigma alumni chapter in Des Moines, Iowa, held an informational on the University of Minnesota campus. After much hard work, three dynamic, determined, young women were introduced to the University of Minnnesota's campus as Sigma women:
S.S. R.E.B.I.R.T.H.
Jareesa T. ~ Jubilance
Maryam Y. ~ Rhapsody
Mandy G. ~ Tenacity
In keeping with the sorority's motto of "Greater Service, Great Progress", Delta Nu chapter held a bone marrow donor registration drive. Delta Nu has also hosted a Game Night and assisted in activities with S.I.S.T.A.H., a black women's group on campus.
Delta Nu chapter was the recipient of the "Essence of Sigma" Award at the 64th Central Region Conference, held in St. Louis, MO.
