Where do you live now?
I have been living in Miami, Florida, for the past 5 years.
Name of spouse/partner:
My wife’s name is Karen Mallin, (Child Clinical Psychologist).
We have
been married almost 8 years.
Children and Pets (number,
type, names, ages):
No children or pets except for various lizards and a few frogs that
hang
out among the plants on our balcony.
Something memorable/highlights
about your days or years at Marshall-U
High:
Among my vivid memories were the merger in 1968 and bussing of students
in from all over the city and the tensions that followed. It was a
real
melting pot experience and helped shape my pluralistic view of the
world. It’s why I find Miami so interesting.
Among my more influential
teachers at M-U were Tom Keljik, Judy Devin,
and Arturo Herrera. I recall one class in particular, “Psychology
of
Counseling,” which was an experimental class taught in the evening
in
the library and we all sat around on the floor. We practiced various
techniques for therapy and counseling. The thing that really threw
me at
the time was that we all had to take turns introducing ourselves and
sharing a little bit about who we were. I remember putting it off
for
several weeks because I was so shy. It went just fine and I married
a
psychologist.
What have you been doing
since then?
After graduating I went to the U of M and had a lot of fun and received
a BFA in Studio Arts. I worked in graphics for a number of years in
Southeast Minneapolis.
I discovered the beauty
of the BWCA during these years and took a number
of canoe trips up North with friends. I met my wife in the early 90’s
while living in SW Minneapolis. She began her doctorate in clinical
psychology at this same time. A few years later she had an internship
which led us to Miami. We enjoy living in South Florida and plan to
stay because we like our jobs I am a digital graphic artist with
Bellsouth Advertising and Publishing (Communications Company) and
also
with the Miami Herald Newspaper.
I love the outdoors and
am only a short drive from the Everglades,
which I never tire of.
