Cozumel 2000

Ocean Diving

The big grin on Mike's face comes just after he tells me he'll never figure out why he took off work to come down here and do this. I mean, 80+ degrees, sun and more diving than should be legal.

Chacmool

To dive Chacmool, gear up and follow Paul down into that crack in the earth. When you see the water, jump in and swim down under the limestone. These underwater caves are beautiful but dangerous. Never dive them without the proper training or guide.

Gearing Up

Our guide in Chacmool and Grand Cenote's was Carlos. Here we see him gearing up with Angie and Mike. Rosa came along and video taped our dives in the "underworld".

As you can see, the sun is out and by now it is near 90* F. We are out in the jungle on the mainland. Like Carlos says, "the ground here is like Swiss Cheese". It is riddled with tunnels and caves. After the last ice age they filled with water. This is where we will dive today.

We used "Yacatech" for these dives. I have dove the caverns on the Yucatan Peninsula four times with Yacatech. I find them to be profesional and safety minded. German,(Yacatech's owner) Carlos and Rosa are all cave certified divers. German and Carlos are certified cave instructors. If you are thinking about diving the cenotes I strongly suggest using them. If you do, tell them I sent you. *S*
