WHERE: 13 miles west of Togo, Minnesota
WHEN: August 5, 2003
ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS: Two friends and I were on our way home from work at about 7:30pm on Tuesday, Aug 5th, 2003. We were driving westbound on highway 1. We were about 13 miles west of Togo, MN by Flaming Pine Youth Camp. We were about 400 yards away on a straight stretch when ahead we seen what looked like a very large creature. It was dark brown or black and what appeared to be hair. It was standing on the side of the road looking into the woods. We got to be about 200 yards away when it turned towards us. We did not see any facial features. It quickly took only one step in the ditch and next it was in the woods. It had a very long leg legnth because there is about 7ft in between the road and the ditch. We sped up to look in the woods. It looked as if that area had had some logging done. The only trees for about 150 yards out were about 6 inches wide. No room for it to hide unless it laid down or something. There was not time even if running to get into the thick woods where we could not see it before we were there stopped. We stared into that area for about 5 minutes before leaving and trying to rationalize what we had just seen. We are not the only people to see this thing in the same area.
No chance at all that it was a bear.I know what I saw and it was no bear. I have two other people that were in the car with me at that time that also seen it.
OTHER NOTES: A few days later, Bigfoot Researcher Yukon met with the witness at the location of the sighting. Here are his notes.
Met with L. this morning. She walked me through the sighting. I believe she did see a bigfoot. Some of her comments left me with no doubt. While we were there she was extremely excited/nervous. Also since her sighting, which was a week ago tuesday, she has talked to others who have had sightings in the area. Possible home range crossing from evergreens to feeding area. (lake) No real trail or sign that could be attributed to bigfoot. Four wheeler tracks along the narrow shoulder would have wiped out any track there. Many deer tracks and while looking around doe and fawns crossed the road. This is right next to a youth camp so the area by the lake has a lot of human activity, trails etc. Deserves much more attention.
Went over the sighting with her at the sight. Walked it out and reinacted it a bit. They came around a sharp corner in the road and could see the creature ahead. The corner was a good 1/4 mile from creature. They were within 150 yards or less when it turned to look at them. She said that it did not turn its head but turned its whole upper body. Did not see the face but when I asked about distinguishing features she said it had very thick wrists. Height about 8 ft. Body not real large but athletic looking. She said he looked rather poofy. The area he was looking into is low and swampy bordering a small lake. It was not logged but the trees are small stunted poplar. From where she said they were when he walked away into the woods would have taken them about 3 seconds to drive to the location he entered the woods. This would have been plenty of time for him to get into cover. The small lake was unpopulated except for cabins from the camp. Also a camp dumpster is pushed right up to the edge of the woods there. She said that they did not see him cross the road but I assume he did. From thick 20 year old pine stand to the lake. I do not know why he would have been standing on the road like that and let them get so close unless someone from the camp was down by the lake or at the dumpster making noise. Then pausing on the road would have been a cautious thing to do. No tracks, lots of deer tracks, Some trails but could have been made by anything. She said someone else from town saw one near there earlier.
Special Thanks To Yukon For His Help
