My Favorite Things About my pet's/Animals

Many people don't realize the calming effect that animals have on people. As you could see from my "Pictures" page, I have several pets whom are very loyal to me, as I am to them. They are my rock in this crazy world.

My dogs, Flash and Shadow, the the most humorous dogs that I have ever seen. They love to stare at my husband or myself, with their brown eyes, wondering when they are going to get the chance to play with us. They are both very loyal dogs, in the times most needed. They will bark at strangers, and they know exactly when the stranger is either a friend or foe. For dogs, they are very smart. They know the difference between a person who doesn't like animals, and one whom does.

The cat's on the other hand, have a different personality. I've heard people say that cats are very independant, and can be very stubborn. This is true, at least with my cats.

Max, (the black tabby) should have been named either Punk, or Houdini. It's very interesting to watch him, when he know's he's in trouble for getting into something he shouldn't have, or for running out of the house, when someone opened the door. He actually sulks and/or makes a face when he's upset.

Ruddy and Dasher, are our two grey tabbys. They were from the same litter of 4 brothers, and they are also almost as sneaky as Max.

Dasher, is actually the sneaker one of all the pets. It's interesting watching him, especially when I give them catnip. Dasher actually acts like a drunken sailor, when he even get's a little catnip.

Ruddy, on the other hand, is the complete opposite of his brother. Both my husband and I have come to the conclusion that Ruddy was a dog in a former life. He's the only cat I know that acts like a dog. Ruddy loves to have his tummy rub, (as long as it isn't rubbed hard). He also loves to be combed/brushed. All I have to do is hold a comb or brush in my hand, and make sure he see's me holding it, and he'll come up to me, and look at me as if he expected me to comb him. It's also interesting watching him beg for a cat treat. He will actually stand on his hind legs and beg like a dog.

Finally, Coco (she our calico). She was the last cat we adopted, although, in the beginning after getting the other four pets, we weren't planning on having any more, but if it wasn't for our neighbors, we would never have had the chance to have Coco in the first place. Our neighbor's found Coco on their front door step, one cold March day, in Minnesota, and for those of you who don't live in Minnesota, it was 40 degrees below zero. So, it was a very cold day. They knew we had 3 other cats, and had asked us for some cat food for a cat (Coco) that was trying to get into their house, whenever they opened the door. Thankfully, I took control of the situation, and took Coco into our home, and placed her in the bathroom, away from the other pets.

To make a long story short, we took Coco to the vets the next day, and found out that someone (not our neighbors) had tried to slit Coco's throat, and had left her out to die. She weighed 4lbs, (average weight is 6-8lbs for an adult cat), she had lice, worms, fleas, a 3 inch knife wound from her chin, to her shoulder blade.

It didn't take much for my husband and I to fall in love with her, and thankfully, she is now a very healthy,"overweight" 5 year old cat. We came to the conclusion that she still has at least 4 of her 9 lives left. and hopefully, she'll live for at least another 5 to 10 years.
