My Rifts Musings, Characters, and Adventures

For now, just some of my character ideas. Anya of the Gypsy's above, and Vengance below. Anya was a Russian Witch, raised by gypsies and used to making do in the wildernesses of Russia. She was out exploring the Russian frontier which was her home, and found herself abruptly "rifted" to Canada. Luckily the Juicer she met there named Ultrin knew a little Euro and she knew conversational amounts of English, and they bickered constantly about the idocracy of some of the large Juicer's ideas and the Witch's opinions of them. He didn't like her, she didn't like him, but they managed to get the party out of quite a few scrapes, including run in's with a few demons. Her magic saved them from surprise, his strength saved them all from death at the hands of the demon. Anya spends her days now searching for her lost friend and companion, and always wondering how she's going to get back to Russia. She can shape change for brief periods of time, so things aren't so bad, but life is dull without her gypsy friends or her Juicer companion.

Vengance, on the other hand, is having a heck of a time. An Amazon warrior, she came north into Texas with her husband, a Tattooed Atlantean. He was killed by a group of raiders (not an easy thing to do) and she is out looking for them. Her unborn child is finally beginning to make itself known, and she is also looking for a new mate during her journey. But unfortunately, most men can't measure up to her 7 foot tall frame. She is also travelling with a warrior-in-training named Sky, who is impetuous, reactionary, and hard to manage. Sky really believes that she can't do anything wrong because she is the daughter of the head warrior in her village. Vengance patiently tries to teach the young one, and to give her a look at the hardest lesson of Amazon upbringing: "We are not invincible, we can die and we do, if mistakes are made."

This is what Kree-aw looked like, before she was slain. Kree-aw was in an adventure I was in during college. She wasn't a character, she was the monster we fought. I thought I'd add her because she just had a neat looking picture, and I found a similar one on the web. She was gaurding a few sacred relics, and the party was supposed to try and retrieve them. Little did we know of the curses on those relics, or we may have re-thought our retrieval plan.

Then there was Jag, my favorite NPC. I'll have a link to the page with his story later, but it is sufficient to say he lived in the Dinosaur Swamps of South America as a Wilderness Guide, and he is my favorite NPC of all time! I went through an entire background story for him because I wanted to explain his entire existence to myself. That way it's easier to answer little questions about things he does in game. Such as why he shoots every butterfly he sees! (Yes, it'll be explained in the adventure.)

This is Grace Poelivoi. She is dressed here in her dress uniform. She is a combat mage from Russia (most of my favorite characters are from there). She was sent to North America with a small patrol of Russian soldiers to set up an arms trade between Triax and the Coalition. The Coalition doesn't like her because of her magical skills, but they put up with her because she came bearing gifts from Triax, and no army turns away gifts from Triax! Grace is currently in Houston, looking for a man she met on her way through to Chi-Town. Preston Claude, a Scholar/Adventurer, stole her heart the last time she was here, and she means to rekindle that relationship. Besides, as a reward for doing her job well, she has a month to do with what she will before the Russians will search for her.

Lena was a fun NPC for the adventure I tried to run in Russia. I figured since most of my favorite characters were from there, why not try an adventure? Lena was a gypsy girl who thrived in fortune telling, tarot, and dancing. What the players found out was that she led a double life, and that she was not only Lena the Gypsy, she was also Lena the Smoke Soldier who was Grand-Niece to the Warlord she served. She brought the adventurers to him and spent the whole time playing the role of a servant, until it was time to go on the Gargoyle hunt with the others. Then she put on her armor from Triax and showed them that she had a fighting spirit.

In one particular adventure I was in, I didn't have time to sit down and make a full character, so the GM told me to make an animal character suitable to be a familiar for one of the Mages in the game. Since they were raiding through a Coalition lab, I decided to make a Mini Monkey Spy. Not fully trained, it had the capability to hack into computer systems, squeak out tweleve to fifteen words like "yes," "no," and "this way," and become a general comedy piece for the rest of the group during my two hours of play. I got the chance to jump around on player's heads (figuratively, of course) and got scared half to death by a guy who was loonie playing a shapeshifter. He decided to shift into a 6 foot tall copy of me! Freaking out, I was jumping all over the guy who was trying to hack into a computer system, and we both got scolded. Still, it was great fun being a semi-intelligent animal. (Note: he did not look like this animation, he was more of a marmoset style monkey.)
