This week on GH, Sonny is faced with the choice of a lifetime: Will he give Carly a second chance or start all over with Angel? ''Forgiveness does not come easy to Sonny,'' states headwriter Megan McT.''So the dilemma for him is that, as much as he wants to lead with his head and say,''The betrayal happened, it's over, it's dead to me,'' his heart was so completely engaged by this woman.''

Carly declares her love Arriving at the lakehouse, a steamed Carly confronts Angel about a summons to appear in court regarding their minor auto accident. However, realizing that her concern for Sonny's well-being is making her even more frantic than usual, Carly admits that she desperately misses her husband. With Sonny secretly listening from another room, he begins to grasp the depth and sincerity of his wife's devotion. ''In the past, McT observes, ''Sonny has successfully been able to shut down his feelings when he needed to protect himself. This time it is not working---the feelings that he has for Carly don't seem to be going away.''

Carly Seeks Out An Ally Later, when Mike finds something near and dear to Sonny that he knows he wouldn't part with, Sonny's pop tells Carly that he believes he knows where her better half is. But when she pleads with him to reveal Sonny's whereabouts, Mike backs down and says that he really isn't certain. ''Mike wants to tell Carly''. McT says, ''but if he does, there is a huge risk--he may lose Sonny forever. ''Mike loves Sonny very much,'' she adds and he loves Carly. His hearts desire would be to get them back together again. But something tells him that if he were to reveal Sonny (now), he might never see him again. That does not mean that Mike won't take action--he will. It just might not be at this moment.

Will Sonny Return to Carly? Back at the lakehouse, Sonny is torn between his love for his wife and his own pride. Sensing that he can't shake Carly's words, Angel asks if he is going back to her. Unsure himself, Sonny is noncommittal in his response. After all, even as livid as he is with Carly, he is taking steps to ensure her and Michael's safety. He has given orders to his organization to protect Carly, McT points out. And when he finds out that her ex, AJ, is coming after Michael, he will certainly take steps. He's pulling strings from behind the scenes.

Angel Issues An Invitation Seeing chances to move in on Sonny, Angel asks him to stay with her at the lakehouse. Their bond grows even closer after an amusing mishap starts Sonny laughing for the first time in months. ''He is suspicious of her at first, but as time goes on, he realizes that if she wanted to hurt him, she would have,'' McT explains. He still keeps a careful eye on her, because he always does. But at the same time, this woman is, in some ways, the opposite of Carly. Carly is always in his face, demanding something. Angel does not seem to demand anything. ''So there is a sort of kinship that occurs between Sonny and Angel, based on the fact that they seem to instinctively understand each other. Down the road, this will be explained--why Angel can understand things that Carly can't''

Sonny Must Choose: Carly or Angel In the end, what does Sonny's growing relationship with Angel mean for his marriage? Is he perhaps unwittingly, moving away from Carly? Stay tuned teases McT. ''This is a big story. Sonny is not done with Carly and he is not done with Angel either. There is going to be a surprise........and I think it will keep everyone on the edge of their seat!''
