The Tiger Cub Program!

Tiger Cubs have an all new and BETTER program! There are many changes so be sure to read, read, read and find out about all the new and exciting things Cub Scouts has to offer the 1st grade Tiger Cubs in our Pack!

Welcome To Tiger Cubs BSA!

Tiger Cubs are 1st grade boys and an adult partner. Adult partners are usually parents or family members, but can be any adult. What is important is that the boy participate with a loving, caring adult. Many activities are designed to involve the whole family!

How Tiger Cubs Works

One of the changes made to the Tiger program is the addition of a Den Leader for each Tiger Cub Den. (Previously, we had only a shared responsibiity format). One adult is chosen to serve as the Tiger Cub Den Leader. This person ensures program planning, meeting places, makes recognitions special, etc. Four to eight boys and their adult partners make up a Den. Each adult/boy team should take a turn hosting a den meeting, based on Achievements in the Tiger Cub Handbook. (also a new addition IS the Tiger Cub Handbook!) The Tiger Cub Handbook is the basic manual for Tiger Cubs and their partners. This book contains topics for the Den meetings. It also has suggestions for family activities between meetings.

The Tiger Cubs are now considered to be "Cub Scouts" and will have all the same opportunities for recognition that the older Cub Scouts have. They will be included in all Pack functions, and will receive advancements at Pack Meetings.

Recognition for Tiger Cubs!

Belt Totem -
When the boys learn the Tiger Cub Motto and Promise, the Pack can present them with a specially designed Tiger Paw Belt Totem.

Activity Beads -
Boys earn an orange activity bead for each den activity in which they participate, a white family activity bead for every five family activities completed, and a black bead for every "Go See It" achievement they complete. They can display these beads proudly on their Tiger Paw Belt Totem!

NEW! Tiger Badge -
By completing the requirements in the Tiger Cub Handbook, the Tiger Cub will earn the diamond shaped Tiger Cub Badge. This is first worn on the leather Tiger Cub Belt Totem and later on the blue Cub Scout uniform shirt. (See the new requirements below)

Bobcat Badge -
The last activity is for the Tiger Cubs to earn the Bobcat Badge by learning the Cub Scout Motto, promise, handshake, salute, sign, the meaning of "Webelos", the "Law of the Pack" and learn what the "Arrow of Light" is. The boys can earn the Bobcat badge as soon as they have earned their Tiger Cub badge, they DO NOT have to wait to be Cub Scouts.

Graduation Flap -
For Tiger Cubs moving into the Cub Scouting program beginning in the Spring, they are entitled to wear a special Tiger Transition pocket flap on their new blue uniform shirt.

The Tiger Cub Badge Requirements!

The Tiger badge is earned after completing 15 achievements grouped in five areas:

. Let's Go Outdoors
. Where I Live
. How I Tell It
. Making My Family Special
. Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe

Within each area the Tiger Cub must complete one Den activity, one family activity, and a Go See It. When a boy completes each requirement he is awarded a bead for his Belt Totem at a Den or Pack meeting. The beads are black for Go See It activities, orange for Den activities, and white for family activities. Note that a boy can only earn 1 bead for each of the 15 achievement parts regardless of how many times he may repeat a particular part. After completing the rank of Tiger Cub, boys may earn one yellow Tiger Track bead when he completes 10 electives. There are 50 electives, and 5 'Tiger Track beads' a boy can earn. Boys may work on electives at the same time as achievements, but a boy cannot receive Tiger Track beads until he has earned his Tiger badge.

These T-shirts can be purchased from the Twin Cities Scout Shops located either at HarMar Mall on Snelling Ave in Roseville or at the BSA Headquarters located at the intersection of Hwy 100 and Glenwood Ave in Golden Valley. Also available are the new Tiger Cub hats and belts!

The Tiger Cub Motto

The Motto of Tiger Cubs BSA is Search, Discover, Share.
The Tiger Cub program is full of excitement and fun. But underlying all of the fun and action are the goals of building self-esteem and confidence, and building a stronger family relationship.

The Tiger Cub Promise

"I promise to love God, my family and my country and to learn about the world."
Your boy is old enough to understand a promise and the responsibility it carries. But he needs your help and support when he feels he is unable or doesn't want to live up to it.
