THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING FOR WCW
First of all, I'd like to apologize to all my fans who have been waiting for a new issue of "The Hitman's Mark". If you haven't guessed, I've been extremely busy these past weeks... Wait a minute, hasn't it been a month since I've written my last column? Damn, I sure hope not. I've been so caught up with personal issues of late, I can't even rememeber what the date is today. Shit, what is my name?
Okay, enough with the bullshit. Today I'm going to jump to the rescue once again and defend World Championship Wrestling.
The World Wrestling Federation is easily and cleanly kicking the living crap out of WCW in their friendly rivalry for Monday night ratings. The WWF deserves all of the credit in the world for setting a new standard in professional wrestling for 1999. I'll admit that the World Wrestling Federation has definately been providing a more entertaining Monday night show than World Championship Wrestling is. I mean, Fit Finley? Norman Smiley? Kenny Kaos? What are you thinking, Mr. Bischoff? Do we, the wrestling fans, want to watch these jobbers beat the crap out of each other? Well, someone like Forrest Gump might find it entertaining. But for me, I'd prefer to watch a Hardcore title match between "Road Dog" Jesse James and Al Snow. However, don't count WCW out yet. No, no, no. Please, let me rephrase.
Don't EVER count out WCW.
This week's Monday Nitro was not "The greatest Monday Nitro ever!" It was, however, very entertaining. And this is just a sign of bigger things that will be coming for WCW.
Now that I'm thinking of it, I'd like to comment on the actions of Tony Schaivone as he told the wrestling world that Mick Foley was the new WWF World Heavyweight Champion on this past Monday Nitro.
It was foolish. It was embarassing. It was the main reason that the World Wrestling Federation once again blew WCW out of the water in the ratings war. By telling the wrestling fans that Mick Foley was the new WWF Champ, Tony Schaivone for one, embarassed himself as a commentator, and he embarassed himself as a wrestling analyst. Two, it convinced the Nitro viewers to turn the channel and watch Raw Is War. And three, it brought WCW down to an all time low.
But, even though Schaivone was being his same old idiotic self, YOU were watching Nitro. Yes, YOU fell into another one of Tony's traps as he says, "Tune in this week, folks. It will be the greatest Nitro of all time!" Everyone who is complaining about what Tony did was watching Nitro, and they were watching WCW television. Gee, I thought WCW sucked. Well, I guess you guys just embarassed yourself, huh?
Everyone continuously tells me that WCW sucks, and that they're never watching it again. Well, guess what. You did watch it again. And you did watch WCW television even though the storylines are not as strong as the WWF's. YOU watched Nitro on Monday because it provides the best wrestling action in the world. If you didn't watch Nitro, than there's no need to get so angered over what that dumbass, Tony Schaivone said. So, enough with Schaivone.
I'd like to talk about the stable that will turn WCW completely upside down.
The NEW WORLD ORDER is back and ready to take over WCW once again. But this time, the faction isn't full of mid-carders. Kevin Nash has decided that this nWo will only feature superstars.
Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Buff Bagwell, Scott Steiner, Lex Luger.
Yes, this is what I call superstars. The New World Order is the only hope that WCW has of beating the WWF in the ratings on Monday nights. They have the attitude. They have the charisma. They have the legends. They have it there way, or no way. The nWo is bad to the bone. And those little gappers watching at home love the "bad boy" type group. And I expect this new nWo to sell more merchandise than the original nWo did. If you ask me, Hulk Hogan doesn't look to bad in red and black colors. I mean, one of the main reasons that Hogan is looked at as an old man is because he constantly wears white and black. But on this past Thunder, Hogan was wearing baggy shorts, sun shades, and an nWo Red and Black T-shirt. Hogan, you're stylin'!
Lex Luger is definately a better heel than a face. Placing Luger in the nWo was the smartest move (For Luger's career, at least). Lex has always been one of my favourites. However, I hate him almost as much as I hate Goldberg when Lex turns face. To me, Lex just doesn't fit the role of a hero. To tell you the truth, Luger can't play the role of a hero; PERIOD. With his new BAD attitude, Flexy Lexy should be receiving a monster push, and a US Heavyweight title run, no doubt. Some are displeased that Luger was chosen to be a member of the New World Order. But I say it was a great move by Kevin Nash and the WCW bookers. I expect a long, bloody feud between Luger and Sting.
Buff Bagwell, well, I'm not sure it was a good move putting Bagwell in the nWo. I mean, the guy is extremely charismatic. He's definately got the mic work. He's a great wrestler. He's tough, and maybe he is the stuff.
But he won't be wrestling for quite some time. And placing an injured man into a fresh, new stable wouldn't exactly be the smartest thing to do at this point. But hey, Buff receives enough heat to be considered a superstar. Bagwell's got the charisma of Shawn Michaels, and he's nWo material in the long run.
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are an absolute must in the nWo. Without Nash and Hall, there is simply no nWo. I don't need to waste my time explaining why they should be in the nWo. Three of the most obvious reasons are as follows.
1. They are both excellent wrestlers.
2. They are both excellent mic workers.
3. They are the founding fathers of the nWo.
Hulk Hogan. The legend. Perhaps the greatest of all time, Hulk Hogan is once again in the spotlight as he leads the nWo into the new millenium. Hogan probably has more charisma than any other wrestler of all time. Without his charisma, he would probably be main eventing a WCW Saturday Night show against Norman Smiley. But none the less, Hulk Hogan will be a threat unmatched in the nWo. With the World Heavyweight title around his waist, Hollywood Hogan should be in line for a hostile takeover in WCW. Eric Bischoff has finally learned that storylines are the key to success in the wrestling business. And with the nWo primed and ready, I expect to finally witness WCW regain the momentum as the best Monday night wrestling show.
World Championship Wrestling is about men putting their bodies on the line every week to entertain millions of fans all over the world.
The World Wrestling Federation is about women stripping and taking their clothes off. Sure, this is entertainment. And I'll be the first to admit that I enjoy watching WWF televivsion. But without this "entertainment", where would the WWF be right now? They'd be looking up from the gutter to World Championship Wrestling, that's for sure.
World Championship Wrestling has learned from their previous mistakes.
Now it's time to kick some Titan ass. Because baby, WCW/nWo is just too...
SWEET!
That's all on this week's edition of "The Hitman's Mark"! Tune in next week for an updated article!
