Eric Bischoff - Is He Properly Controlling WCW? I Think So.
Every wrestling fan in North America believes one thing - Eric Bischoff is destroying WCW. Well, my friends, I've got four words for ya... "I Don't think so".
The World Wrestling Federation has ruled the wrestling business for many decades. People such as Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Andre "The Giant", Shawn Michaels, and Randy Savage have made the WWF the greatest wrestling promotion of all time. A decade ago, wrestling fans believed that the World Wrestling Federation would rule the wrestling business forever thanks to the excellent angles, matches, and superstars that the WWF had been presenting. The WWF had been happily embraced by people all over the world. It seemed as though there was really no point in ever creating another wrestling promotion.
Then, Ted Turner bought the American Wrestling Alliance, and turned it into WCW (you may have heard of it referred to as the AWA). With his purchase of AWA, Ted Turner gained the services of such superstars as Big Van Vader, Cactus Jack, Sting, the Diamond Stud, Vinnie Vegas, Lex Luger, and Jean Paul Levesque. However, Many wrestling fans (Including myself) believed that Ted Turner's wrestling promomtion would go absolutely no where. Some wrestling fans immediately jumped ship from the WWF to this new company that Ted Turner had introduced. On the other hand, most people, including Vince McMahon, had really taken the WCW as a joke. Both the fans and McMahon truly believed that Ted Turner had bought a first class ticket to nowhere. However, Vince McMahon and the WWF fans were wrong about their whole interpretation of the WCW.
Now, the WCW and WWF are basically at the same level of popularity. You can't go to a WWF show without seeing a fan wearing an official nWo Red and Black logo T-shirt. Just the same, you can't go to a WCW show without seeing a fan wearing an Austin 3:16 T-Shirt. What this means is that the wrestling fans love both the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. This also shows that both promotions are doing a great job providing entertaining wrestling.
So, if the WCW is just as popular as the WWF, why is the President of WCW, Eric Bischoff, such a foolish man? Well, I've got the answer for you, fans. It's quite simple, really.
"Eazy E" Eric Bischoff is doing an excellent job running World Championship Wrestling.
Yes, that's right, folks. I believe Eric Bischoff has done what no other wrestling promoter could ever do. Not even Mr. Vincent K. McMahon could accomplish what Eric Bischoff has accomplished in a span of three years.
80% of all WCW viewers are die hard fans of the NEW WORLD ORDER. Now, everyone seems to forget one small factor that represents the nWo. You see, if it weren't for Eric Bischoff, there would be no NWO. Can WCW survive without the nWo? NO. So, in other words, Eric Bischoff is a life saver for World Championship Wrestling. Eric Bischoff invented the New World Order. Without the nWo, there would be no WCW. Without Eric Bischoff, there would be no nWo. You see? WCW would be eating off of the WWF's dirt if it weren't for Eric Bischoff's ingenious plans.
You're thinking, "The only reason Bischoff is somewhat brilliant is because he invented the nWo. Other than that, he's a dumb jack ass." Well, then, I'll try my best to prove you wrong there, as well.
What other useful things has Eric Bischoff done as President of WCW? Well, let's see, now... Firstly, Bischoff has taken the New World Order and turned it into the greatest wrestling stable of all time. Eric Bischoff also invented everyone's pride and joy, The Wolfpac. You see, though, Bischoff can't just be commended for his materializing of the nWo. Eric has done far more than just creating a "bad boy" stable.
Eric Bischoff provides heart stopping action every week to wrestling fans all over the world. WCW Monday Nitro is one of the most watched cable programs on television. Why? It's simply because of Eric Bischoff. Bischoff brings the greatest matches every week to WCW fans. For example, WCW Monday Nitro always has a huge main event that delivers. Whether it be Sting vs. Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan vs. Sting, Bret Hart vs. Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart vs. Diamond Dallas Page, or Goldberg vs. The Giant. WCW always delivers with a spectacular main event. Now, what about the WWF? Sure, they've got the almighty Vince McMahon working the fantastic angles. However, having great angles doesn't mean anything if you can't deliver with the wrestling matches itself. What great main events have the WWF provided on Monday Night Raw? Well, let's see here. Um, let me think... NONE! At the conclusion of every Raw is War, it always has you thinking, "What is going to happen next week on Raw?" Well, this is a great way to end your show, right? Not exactly. The WWF has the same ending time in, and time out. Either Stone Cold Steve Austin gives someone the "Stone Cold Stunner." Or, Vince McMahon celebrates a beating of Steve Austin courtesy of either Kane or The Undertaker. If you ask me, the WWF's main events are lame and boring. Watching Stone Cold "Stun" Vince McMahon was entertaing at first. However, seeing that same sequence over and over now makes me think, "Man, atleaset the WCW doesn't have Goldberg beating the exact same jobber on every Nitro again and again."
Eric Bischoff tries to deliver something fresh to the wrestling fans every week. Now you're thinking, "Um, gee... What about Bill Goldberg? Are you saying that's fresh? I'm getting sick of seeing that freak win all the time. Bischoff is definitely not providing anything fresh." Well, that's not true at all. You see, it's not Eric Bischoff's fault that Bill Goldberg can only perform two wrestling maneuvers. (Actually, the "Jackhammer" and "Spear" aren't what I'd call, "wrestling maneuvers".) Eric Bischoff doesn't care if Goldberg can't perform any moves. Why should Bischoff care? I mean, it seems to me that the wrestling fans have embraced Goldberg as their hero. (Personally, I think Goldberg is a loser.) Every time Goldberg makes his entrance down the aisle, the fans are always behind him. Every WCW Pay-Per-View features Goldberg in the main event. This is extremely brilliant planning. WCW can have Goldberg undefeated for alot longer, now. They can have Goldberg main eventing at every WCW Pay-Per-View facing another superstar like DDP. At World War 3, Goldberg will be facing another superstar and WCW will make a fortune on the main event. So, if WCW is making so much money off of Goldberg's undefeated streak, then why is Eric Bischoff an idiot? I'd say Eric Bischoff is definatley a genious.
WCW Monday Nitro provides the greatest wrestling action in the world. The Cruiserweight division is what makes the WCW so great. Eric Bischoff is what makes the Cruiserweight division. Men such as Billy Kidman, Juventud Guerrera, and Rey Mysterio Jr. have revolutionized WCW. Who hired and took care of these great athletes? Eric Bischoff did. Who recognized the talent of these remarkable superstars? Eric Bischoff did.
I remember a while ago that Vince McMahon forced D-Generation X to visit the WCW main office on a Raw Is War. DX continued to say, "We want to speak to Eric Bischoff. We want a word with Eric Bischoff." Then, the WCW security would respond, "Mr. Bischoff is not here." So, D-Generation X left the scene and forgot all about being at war with World Championship Wrestling. However, Vince McMahon had no idea that Eric Bischoff would fire back with more ammo than Vince could ever anticipate. On the very next WCW Thursday Night Thunder, Bischoff walked down the aisle with his glasses, and a piece of paper. Bischoff said, "Vince McMahon, you continue to send your goons after me. But, uh, Vinny Mac... There's only one problem. You're sending them to places that you know I am not. So McMahon, I challenge you to a match for Slamboree. What do ya say, Vinny Mac? You and I can finally find out who is the better promoter. Vinny Mac, I hope to see you at Slamboree. I'll be waiting - with open arms." That interview conducted by Eric Bischoff saved WCW from embarassment. Now, it was the WWF that was feeling embarassed. Eric Bischoff fired back at the WWF with great anger and vengeance. Fearing this, Vince McMahon stopped sending DX to chase Eric Bischoff on Raw Is War. It seemed as though WCW had won the battle. However, the war was far from over as WCW and WWF continued to battle for the "Ratings War."
Eric Bischoff has turned WCW into one of the greatest promotions of all time. Never the less, Bischoff continues to be trashed and bad mouthed for his actions as the president of WCW. I continue to ask myself, "What has Eric Bischoff done besides provide superb wrestling action to millions of wrestling viewers?"
Eric Bischoff is a brilliant man. Bischoff is the man who will take WCW all the way to the top (If he hasn't done so already.) Wrestling fans constantly say, "Eric Bischoff's angles are dull, pointless, and just plain pathetic." Well, if you think about it, we the wrestling fans are the ones who are pathetic. Why? Because we continue to watch WCW every week that a Nitro or Thunder is on television. If the fans didn't watch WCW, maybe then Eric Bischoff would realize that his storylines are pointless. But hey, if the fans watch his program every week, why the hell would Eric Bischoff make any changes to the way he is running WCW? From a financial stand point, Eric Bischoff is controlling WCW just fine.
Hulk Hogan says continuously, "I am the man that made professional wrestling what it is today." Yes, I truly believe this. However, ten years from now, I believe the world will be saying, "Eric Bischoff is the man that made professional wrestling what it is today."
That's all on this edition of "The Hitman's Mark" with Brian "BJ" Boyd. Tune in next week for an updated article!
