Forever Annoyed #12

After my last column, I got a fucking huge e-mail from a guy who tried to argue his points. The e-mail was so fucking big that it took him 3 different ones to send it all. Instead of writing the usual small, concise statement back to him, I decided to respect the time he took out of his obviously not-so-busy schedule and rebut in my column some of the things he had to say. That way, I can respond to him in a forum much to his liking, while at the same time getting another column done and letting you, my readers, know where I stand on some issues. To answer most of your questions at there let me just say this: Yes, he IS on AOL.

Here is a sample of what he wrote (AFTER I cleaned up some spelling mistakes):

Although sometimes it seems that WCW is trying to rip people off, they are much more fan-friendly than the WWF. Announcers always give wishes to the fans, they have WCW cruises, WCW Nitro parties Contests, they even held a Nitro at a nightclub. McMahon, who is no humanitarian, would rather hold his card in big arena after big arena. He never tries to interact with his audience. I hope someday common sense will prevail and they'll start delivering top product again. Bischoff knows that the fans will dump his federation if he keeps these antics up, ask Vince.

My Rebuttal:

I don't give a fuck about "fan-friendliness"! I want entertainment and I don't give a shit about anything else. Announcers give wishes to the fans? Hahahahaha...The day that Tony starts handing out wishes to people is the day that he'll find his ball sac hanging up in the rafters with Sting. That is MY wish. WCW has cruises you say? WWF has them as well, in more abundance. Nitro Parties? Who gives a fuck? They are only promoted on the show because Bischoff wants ANYTHING to replace wrestling in his timeslot. McMahon likes big arenas. Bischoff likes big arenas. Good business people like big arenas. Need I say more on that point? McMahon has the best interaction because he serves a purpose on camera and his mic skills are unquestioned. Bischoff's interaction with the audience is comparable to watching a monkey jacking off in the zoo. You watch it at first for a laugh and to see how good he is at it, but it grows old fast and you eventually move on.

Another sample of his writing:

They have a wealth of talent. Big names, cruiserweights, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and a World Champ everyone should be proud of. Goldberg has received criticism for no mike skills, but he is entertaining, has a good array of moves, and a conscience. Jewish people now have a man they can look up to. He cares about this sport as much as anyone.

My rebuttal:

Hahahahahahahahahaha. Big names don't interest me, because 95% of the "big names" can't wrestle worth a dogfuck. They aren't worth a squirt of piss in my book. Goldberg has 2 moves and he doesn't do them very well. He got over with the fans and he does good business. That I can appreciate and for that he should be commended. He doesn't care about this sport as much as ANYONE though. If he cared about the sport he would improve his repertoire, which he hasn't. If he cared about this sport he would be willing to interact with the fans more. If he cared about this sport he wouldn't be a StoneCold rip-off and he would be willing to job. He hasn't shown any of these characteristics nor has he shown himself to be a willing listener. For that, he's blackballed in my eyes. Does he have potential? To quote the man he ripped off, "Oh hell yeah!" Does he need tons of work? Once again, with even more emphasis, "OH HELL YEAH!!"

Another sample of his e-mail:

When WCW created the NWO, McMahon's WWF slowly lost its popularity. But instead of finding a reasonable solution, he decided to turn against his fans and create an adult-oriented RAW that would only appeal to people who really don't care about the sport. When that didn't improve the ratings, he decided to interject himself shamelessly into Steve Austin's growing popularity, trying to actually ruin the only man who makes him money. If I were Austin, I would be incensed. How would you feel if your boss was trying to take away your thunder. Steve doesn't need to have McMahon in this ridiculous feud. McMahon only cares for the almighty dollar, too. He just putting himself as the hero, trying to make people like him. Well, I hate him, if wrestling loses popularity, he too, will to be blamed.

My retort, great as usual:

Let me go on record by saying that I care about the sport more so than the "average" fan. Simply put, I am extremely interested in the history of it and we, right now, are seeing a chapter in history unfolding with the resurgence of wrestling. With that said let me ask you people this question. Does everyone remember Survivor Series 97? I sure as fuck do, as it was the key moment in time where the Austin/McMahon angle was born. Vince came out and played the "bad" promoter by having Bret get "screwed" (a work, IMO, as I have stated before). At that point, Vince solidified his position as a heel and the screwing StoneCold angle was made possible. Vince didn't interject in his company just because he wanted to. He did it because the FANS wanted him to and Vince gives the fans what they want. That's why he's still in business and has been in business for decades. If you asked Steve Austin if he wanted Vince to get involved I'm POSITIVE he would say yes. The adult direction of RAW is just another chapter in the ongoing saga of professional wrestling. Personally, I enjoy it. The lewd comments and funny skits are great viewing. They aren't for everybody though and I won't knock anyone for not liking it.

Something else from the AOL fool:

WCW's commentators aren't world-beaters, but they're better than what the WWF has. Jim Ross doesn't fit in this new WWF, Lawler sounds like Beavis, Jim Cornette is annoying. Shane McMahon could become the next Gordon Solie, he's amazing. Dok Hendrix and Dr. Tom are fun.

Laughing as I type this retort:

Good lord, it was at this point in time that this guy lost ALL credibility. It was out of sheer will that I made it through the rest of the e-mail. All I will say is this: Shane McMahon is NOT going to be the next Gordon Solie and Jim Ross is fucking incredible. Does a great job, best in the business. Lawler is hilarious and serves his purpose. WCW's commentator's are awful. I will provide no backing for that other than this: Watch Nitro sometime.

In my next column I will continue to make my responses to this guy public and let you all know how I feel. That said, let me just tell the guy who wrote this letter to me that I appreciate you letting me dissect it.

Comments, as always, are welcomed and appreciated.
