May 24, 2007: Anderson Lake Park/Tierney's Woods Hike (Eden Prairie)

Join the group for a hike around a portion of the western side of Anderson Lakes/Tierney's Woods Park in Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie owes its name to Elizabeth Fry Ellet, an author and travel writer, who, upon visiting this area's bluffs and prairies at the request of the New York Times in 1852, proclaimed this to be the garden spot of the Minnesota territory. An 1851 treaty had opened much of the land of the Minnesota Territory west of the Mississippi River to settlement and the Minnesota River allowed pioneers easy access to Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie Township was formed in 1858, six years after the creation of Hennepin County. The city of Eden Prairie was incorporated in 1962. James Anderson was an early resident for whom the lakes were named.

If driving: From I-494, take the Highway 169 exit and proceed south on Highway 169 to Anderson Lakes Parkway. Proceed west/northwest on Anderson Lakes Parkway to the SECOND intersection of Neill Lake Road, the westward portion of an intersection where Basswood Road proceeds east. Turn west (left) on Neill Lake Road and park on the street. We will meet near the corner of Neill Lake Road and Anderson Lakes Parkway.

If coming by public transit: Take Metro Transit route(s): 680. The bus service points appear to be along Anderson Lakes Parkway, after the bus turns west from Highway 169. Applicable Metro Transit Map / Bus Schedule information

The group will reconvene at a nearby restaurant (Bella Cucina, 9332 Ensign Avenue, off of Bloomington Ferry Road, SSE from the hike start point) after the hike for dinner or dessert.
