The Pastor

I sat in the pew in the small church it had been a long journey for me to get here.

The young pastor mesmerized me. He seemed to be speaking to me, but looking around I saw he had the same effect on everyone there. He spoke of his love for God and the love God has shown him and his family.

He told of the hard times he had experienced in his life, but how God had always provided. He spoke so clear and so pure and no one in that small church took his or her eyes off of him. I though what a great gift this handsome young man has.

I was taken back to the beginning of my journey to when my children were small. My oldest son was just in grade school and times were hard, but he loved Sunday School and said someday mom I'm going to be a preacher. My kids did not have an easy life I was divorced and they had to do without so much. But we had love. Even though at times all we had were bologna sandwiches and buttered noodles they all grew up.

I remembered his first day of school and how I cried knowing he was not just mine anymore. I remembered the struggles of him being a teen but was I always amazed by how he learned and grew. I remember him going into the military service and how sad I was he was leaving but how proud he made me time and time again. I sat and thought about this time in my life.

Now as I listened to this special pastor I thought to my self, if this man of God could overcome so much to become a pastor then he really is blessed. At that moment the pastor said my brothers and my mom are here today and they are probably surprised at what I do for my living, this is not what I wanted to do. He told how he would like to be rich and not have to worry about his wonderful wife and three children, but God wanted him to spread the word. So that is what he does.

It took me along time to get here like I said, but I am not surprised by the love I felt in that small church or the wonderful way this man of God spoke. He is my son and to say I am proud of him would be an understatement. I am honored that he is my son. And as I look around I can feel the love of God, and I feel blessed.

I see trees of green, red roses too,

I see them bloom, for me and you

and I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white

the bright blessed day the dark sacred night

and I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky

are also on the faces of people going by

I see friends shakin' hands saying' "how do you do?"

They're saying I love you"

I hear babies cry I watch them grow

they'll learn much more than I'll ever know

and I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world!
