Montgomery-Lonsdale 30 LeCenter 29
Redbirds make history
MONTGOMERY -- The Montgomery-Lonsdale wrestling team made school history
Tuesday night and did it in dramatic fashion. The Redbird's 30-29 victory over LeCenter marked the
first time that Montgomery has defeated LeCenter on the mat. LeCenter won the first six matches of
the night before the Redbirds came roaring back. Jason Simon, wrestling at 140 pounds, got
Montgomery on the board with a pin. Josh Kuchinka followed up with a major decision and suddenly
LeCenter's lead was down to 19-10. After a loss at 152, Damon Athey scored a technical fall at 160,
Billy Sampson defeated Travis Blaschko 13-8 in overtime at 171 and Chris Shaughnessy won by
forfeit at 189 to draw Montgomery to within 29-24 with one match left. That final match went to the
Redbird's Matt Thielbar, who pinned Neil Stocker in 2:44 to seal the win. Montgomery is now 1-1 in
the Minnesota River Conference and 4-2 overall. The Redbirds wrestle at Scott West Friday.
